Best WLM Reviews
The food was fresh and cooked to order. I never mind waiting when the food arrives hot. There are lots of traditional American Chinese dishes from which to choose. For our pallets it wasn't very interesting. My 80+ year old parents loved it. The service and atmosphere were lacking but if you want to just sit and not have anyone come near your table, it works. We sat there for a long time and there were 3 tables used in total. So it is a good place to linger and talk without feeling pressure to leave. Also the portions are large.
Myself & my family absolutely love this place! It has the best egg drop soup in not only Portland, but so far all of Oregon!!
I’ve been a regular customer here for about five years and the quality of food has maintained consistently delicious.
My top recommended Chinese food in Portland ????????
Been going here for about 20 years now. The quality of food has always been great, the flavor has not changed, and the service is exceptional. Same great people. Thank you! Can't wait to go back
When Panda Express and PF Chang's are your go-to for Chinese food; your region sucks. This is exactly how I feel about Oregon when it comes to Chinese cuisine.
Since Danwei Canting is no longer, and I'm not a fan of Ling Garden or anywhere else in the Hillsboro suburbs, I decided to try August Moon on my way home from work. The food surprised me, actually. While I've gotten used to gelatinous sauces and chewy meats with my Chinese food adventures, August Moon breaks the trend. At least with the sauce. That said, I definitely feel for nearly twenty bucks I should have gotten a heavier bag of food.
I'm not going to write home about the service since I had to wait almost ten minutes longer than quoted. This doesn't bother me personally, however, as I don't feel the obligation to tip when this happens. It's just worth noting that you may have a bit of a wait time.
The hunt for the best, or even solid Chinese food in Oregon continues. But if you're in the area, and don't want the stresses of parking (they have their own small lot; which I appreciate), give August Moon a try. It's serviceable.
ill preface this by setting the scene.
its noon on a monday, there 2 people sat at a table who have already ordered.
theres no other diners or anyone in line at the counter.
the woman behind the counter doesnt seem particularly busy.
so its my first time here, just wanted to grab a quick lunch while in the area. my go-to dish is usually chicken fried rice; low risk, pretty straightforward, filling, usually cheaper than other options.
the woman sort of snapped at me asking me what i wanted. i take it with a grain of salt, cultural differences? anyway, its a restaurant so i obviously want to place a food order. she walks away from me while im mid sentence to the 2 sat diners nearby.
sort of rude, but ok maybe theyve been waiting ages.
i tell her id like a plate of chicken fried rice. i thought their online menu said $8.99, she says its $9.95. alright, $1 discrepency, not the end of the world. i pay with a card, she says itll be 10 minutes, & as i go to reach for my card back, she tosses it on the counter...
ok a bit rude, maybe shes vision challenged & didnt see my hand out, i didnt make a fuss.
i sit & wait, thinking that the soft lute music was rather soothing. that was quickly drowned out by 10 minutes of shouting coming from the kitchen. ok, maybe the cook got an order wrong earlier & the woman is keeping them in line, who knows, but its obviously important since its loud enough to fill the dining area.
finally my food is done, the woman places it on the counter, & as shes walking away says "your chicken fried rice sir", & puts her head down to pretend to look busy a few feet away.
at this point im realizing why its empty in here at lunch.
since its apparent that im bothering them by ordering food, i say nothing & just take my plate & leave, feeling very unwelcome.
the food portion was competitive with similar places. the eggroll was puny, a little larger than a razerblade, but it was a bonus so whatever.
there were maybe 5 little pieces of chicken in the whole plate so they mustve been running out. maybe thats what the shouting was about. the rice was ok, i wouldve liked some vegetable chunks in there that you usually see in good fried rice but it was pretty bare.
i dont feel like ill be craving to come back anytime soon.
Fried shrimp for 20$ straight of the freezer deep fried and tossed in “salt & pepper”
Great portions and excellent flavors! I love the quaintness and aesthetic. Definitely a good stop on 23rd.
I have been coming in this Restaurant for the last 20years. And Every time I dine and ate there with my family. Or Friends! I always Enjoy there Food! And services. And love the Owner! The couple is nothing but wonderful❤️
