First time going to The Bowling Alley. Cool atmosphere, dollar bills on the ceiling, friendly staff. I ordered a shrimp basket, rib-eye steak and garlic mashed potatoes, no drink, just water, with the tip, came to over $50. Had I known about the steak and shrimp special, and the salad bar, I would have ordered both of those. Shrimp basket was frozen breaded shrimp, the steak was okay, nothing I would drive out of my way to try again, garlic mashed potatoes tasted like regular mashed potatoes, no garlic flavor at all. I saw a lot of people ordering pizza, I'll have to try the pizza next time. Note to staff, not everyone who walks through the door knows about the specials, including the specials in the menu or verbally letting people know would be helpful.
If only we could have watched the game without the tv constantly glitching, I would give it 5 stars across the board! My prime rib sandwich was a very healthy serving that will give me a couple more meals! Cooked perfect at medium rare - that's hard to get these days! I'd prefer hashbrowns, cheese, and onions served open-face rather than folded like a sandwich. My husband didn't mind it, though. It hid the onions so he could eat them without complaining. ;)
Prime Rib was very good. Wife got 8 pcs of Butterfly shrimp that were large. Been there a few times and NEVER had a bad meal. Soft serve ice cream finishes it off. Saturday nights best to make a reservation, still wait is usually no longer than 20 min. Just enough time to visit their bar for a round before supper. Nice small salad bar, and soups are very good also. So basically can't go wrong eating there.
Had reservations for 6:30. Got there a little early & we were seated quickly. Ordered at 6:30. Food finally came at 7:45, over an hour wait! We all ordered rare prime rib and were assured they had rare left. When we finally got it, it was medium (barely pink) and it was cold... and so were the sides. We reported it to our waitress who stated that was as rare as they cooked it. We asked for to go boxes and left after taking 2 bites. We drove 40 minutes to Carroll to Baratta's where they know how to serve rare prime rib. What we got at The Bowling Alley was cut up and put into our chili... what a waste of money!
Let me preface by saying normally I love this place. Nice salad bar, great soups, nice staff and particularly perfect fountain Pepsi that is good and crispy not too sweet. On this Saturday night I decided to have the prime rib. It was priced Right and a generous portion. Unfortunately it had no flavor it was too chewy to really eat. I come here too often to complain and decided to just bring home the leftovers and cut it up for my dog.
Stopped after a basketball game this evening. Walked in at 6:15. 4 tables that came after us ordered before us. Another group that came in with us was given their to-go boxes before we ordered. Finally ordered at 6:40. When ordering a pizza, our waitress said “G** Da**” you’re going to make the kitchen angry.” We ordered 2 pizzas, 2 burgers and 10 wings. 6 tables that ordered after us have now been served, only one remains with empty plates. We get our food at 7:25 without the pizzas. Waitress tells us she’ll go check on them. At 7:30 my mom has to remind the lady to check on our pizzas. “One will be out in 2 minutes and the other is right behind.” Brings the first one, and says “it will be about 4 more minutes for the other pizza.” The last pizza comes out at 7:30. My husband asks for a to-go box since everyone else at the table had finished their food.
Our checks are brought to us and I ask about compensation. Another waitress says “we only have one pizza oven and it takes too long” (maybe would have been nice to know when we ordered instead of being told we were making the kitchen angry) Our waitress goes to talk to the manager, and comes back and says “nope!” We explained that we won’t be back, and we don’t appreciate the people coming out of the kitchen to look at us when all we have wanted was the supper we ordered 50 minutes ago. All of a sudden our original waitress was yelling at us and said “I’m not doing it!!” And walked off.
Mind you, we have been patient and polite the entire time until she started yelling at us. We understand people are busy. We had three young kids with us -one a baby - and they literally waited so patiently.
Great food! Sirloin was cooked to perfection. Prime rib Oscar was good. Asparagus was woody, but overall the dish was great! One Oscar was more than enough for 2 people! It was super busy so even with reservations it took an hour to get our food.
Wonderful small town gathering spot. Had a good steak, baked potato and salad bar. Identified as a west coast liberal to the room by my host, I had a couple interesting conversations with local patrons. Great time and meal.
