Best WLM Reviews
The Black Dog Tavern in Vineyard Haven offers a quintessential New England dining experience, perfectly situated right on the water and just a short, pleasant walk from the ferry landing. The scenic views complement the warm, inviting atmosphere, making it an ideal spot to relax and enjoy a meal upon arrival. The Clam Chowder here is particularly exceptional, enriched with a unique twist of croutons instead of the traditional oyster crackers, which adds an amazing texture and flavor. Additionally, the generous portion sizes mean that entrees can easily be shared, adding value to your dining experience. Overall, dining at The Black Dog Tavern is a delightful way to start your exploration of Martha’s Vineyard, fueling up with delicious fare in a picturesque setting.
I tried almost every highly recommended chowder on the island, and this one was by far my favorite. I loved it so much I came back on the last day of my trip to get it one more time. I like my chowders on the thicker side, and this is one of the only ones I found that serve it that way. The broth is super flavorful and the clams are tender and abundant. I also had a whole order of their mussels all to myself and they were delicious.
The Black Dog Tavern exceeded expectations with its generous portion sizes, satisfying even the heartiest appetites. The diverse menu offered a plethora of options, ensuring there's something for everyone to enjoy. Conveniently located just a short stroll from the ferry, it's the perfect spot to grab a delicious meal before or after exploring the island.
Portions aren't big by American standards, real hollandaise sauce. Amazing view of the harbor, great atmosphere and decor, lovely staff.
The portion sizes are tremendous, the wine is delicious, the service was SUPERB!
Alice (I believe that was her name - she had beautiful purple hair if that rings a bell) was our server. She was timely and kind.
Our portions were huge! We had leftovers with takeout boxes. Without even asking, a gentleman opened up a to-go bag as we were about to leave the door so we could carry the to-go boxes all together. I was so surprised by this service! Very observant.
The scenery was great - with a beautiful view of the ferries.
This was a great spot for the island. The food was tasty and nice portions. I had the lobster roll. The people I sat with had brussel sprouts, fish and clam chowder soup. If you're on the island I definitely recommend.
An iconic brand and historic spot! Worth going once just for the experience. Our service was wonderful - fast, attentive, knowledgeable, etc. The food itself was candidly nothing special. And I really wanted to be obsessed with the hot buttered lobster roll, but it was disappointing. The lobster was a bit tough and mildly warm. And the fact that it cost $42 just made that sting a little bit more. The clam chowder was delicious. The burger and tuna melt was solid. The atmosphere was vibrant and it certainly is a kid friendly place although don’t look for a kid menu. However, our waitress was happy to give us plenty of kid friendly options.
Family lunch on the vineyard, 10/10 recommend! We sat outside which was nice, the server we had was really nice but busy so she didn’t have time to meet and greet. We waited about 10 minutes once seated until she was able to come over to take our drink order, she also took our food order and we saw her again after everyone was done eating to give us our tab. The other servers were nice and refilled waters as they saw low glasses which was really nice of them. The tuna melt was great, I ordered it without tomatoes and bacon but with lettuce and onions so I enjoyed it. We also ordered the chowder which was pretty good, and the croutons surprisingly went well opposed to oysters. The watermelon lemonade alcoholic beverage was also really good.
