Love the low ceilings, it gives it a cozy atmosphere. Our server Gabrielle took awesome care of us. The food was delicious and the beer was cold. The whole experience was fantastic.
Super unique spot. Like stepping back in time. Great german menu. So hard to choose. Brings me back to my childhood. Tasty food. Friendly service. Highly recommended.
The food here is always very good, and the old building with brick walls, wood floors, and a stone patio with grape vines overhead, is charming. But the service is always slooowww. Plan for that and you'll have a great experience.
Locally owned German restaurant in the heart of historic Portsmouth, Virginia.
Between our group of three, we sampled the Knackwurst, Bauernwurst, Wienerwurst, Kartoffeln, Sauerkraut, and Spätzle. Everything was delicious. Authentic, traditional and very tasty.
We also sampled some of their German bier on draft. They even met our request for a Cola-Weizen, which is half fountain Coke and half Hefeweizen. It’s quite good, and outside of Germany, I’ve never been able to get a restaurant to agree to make one for me.
The waitstaff were very friendly and attentive.
The atmosphere inside was warm and cozy with lots of decorative pieces to add to the German dining experience.
A fantastic bier list and the food is great. Traditional German cuisine that is flavored with authentic German spices. The owners and staff are super welcoming making guests feel right at home.
Best Bavarian dish I've ever had!
Czech Gulosh with Meatloaf on top. (It was a special). Next time have to try the sausages.

We enjoyed our dinner here. This was highly recommended by our friends. My husband tried a couple of different sausages and got the cheese dipping sauce. Highly recommend the sauce! I got the Curryworst. The sauce was terrific with great flavor. The potatoes were great too. We sat in the covered patio and they allowed me to bring my small dog. They brought him out a water bowl too. Our waitress was very nice. The atmosphere is great. You can sit inside, outside, or in the covered patio area. We will bring our family when they come to town.
The schnitzel is amazing, the beer selection was plentiful, and our server Ben was the coolest dude. I didn't even want to go here to eat because I'm so picky, but the food exceeded my expectations! Will definitely be back!
