We arrived to Antwerp and found that Chinatown was right next to our hotel. We were super excited as we watched along the street and noticed many were not open due to Ascension Day.
So, we went to China Star since it was one of the very few that was opened. It looked big so we thought this would be a good choice.
We were serviced by the owner and he was not friendly at all. You can tell his staff members were afraid of him. The vibe was not pleasant.
We ordered a bunch of dim sum and it has to be one of the worst we've ever had. We've traveled all over and just couldn't believe it. The sticky rice roll was hard and not even warm inside. The hoisin sauce in the cheung fun was sour. The food was generally barely warm. The oyster had sand or broken shells in it.
Overall, definitely would not recommend this place. I'm hoping others next door are better. They have to be, right?
I heard of this restaurant from people living in Antwerp and I took the chance to have a dinner here. This is a restaurant with certain years of history and its owner and its chef are all Cantonese. However, the level of cooking, in summary, shows that they know how to do it but they no longer care to do it well. The beef bami is over burned, which is a relatively rare mistake among Chinese restaurants in Europe. The steamed chicken feet and ribs: although they have put all the correct ingredients and spicies, they taste just: WEIRD. The taro cakes are too dry, the turnip cakes are too soft that they smashes once being touched. Well I think this restaurant lacks the passion and seriousness of doing the cooking well, they no longer treat every dish with heart but only with technics.
Very nice Yangzhou fried rice which is full of shrimp and ingredients and Shrimp Har Gow Dimsum very tender and delicious, good service and reasonable price.
The worst quality food, very rude service, waiter was 10 times walking around our table, looks like we were not welcome at all. We thought the table was bit noisy beside us, there is a big round table with whole family, therefore we asked to changed the table, that makes him upset, rest 45 mins only walking by us and check us out if we were doing something again makes him unhappy ????????♀️
Then, young female waiter came with food, so rude to put the dish just on the table not even say something, omg that’s really bad that someone served food like that, long sour face looks like someone lend money from her and didn’t get back?
Afterwards, mean problem is food has no taste at all, all the same, dry chicken, hard beef, mapo tofu licking outside the dish and again, no taste, crispy dumpling is really crispy, looks like you chewing paper, and another dish also sucks.
At the end, we laid, 75.65€, cash, lady walked through my husband, gave the invoice and I said I don’t need the invoice, you know what happened? God be kidding me that I gave them 80€ and that old man took the money and rest coins he didn’t want to give me, he look at me and just want to throw that coins all in the saving pot act like this is the tip! You don’t take that back! I’m like: give me back! And he had such a long face because I asked him the remains money back! SHAME!!
I would travel to Belgium just for this place. It's crazy delicious and I recommend it to everyone! Fantastic restaurant.
Very nice, authentic and tasty food. Large portions as well. Staff could be friendlier
Good food, nice service. We like that we didn't get all our meals at once, they just waited until we ate the previous ones. We recommend this place and we will be happy to come again.
This is the Cantonese style restaurant you could have the most choices in Antwerp Chinatown :) Especially the din sum here.
In general the taste is good but just a bit salty for me. A lot of authentic dishes and fast service, normal price.
