Soul food is a specialty and not every one can do it correctly! 6978 Soul Food can do it.
The atmosphere in the restaurant is okay it definitely gives outdated bar/banquet hall. But one thing I’ve learned as a foodie is how the place looks shouldn’t always deter you from stopping cause we all know some of the best restaurants are holes in the wall.
When we were seated we did a quick check to make sure it was clean and everyone was pleased. Our waitress was extremely sweet and nice. We have a big table with children so we always appreciate waitstaff that are a little understanding.
The food was quick to get to the table which was great because we didn’t have to wait long. Even though the food was quick it was fresh and hot. The sides were amazing! The food was good definitely something to feel your stomach when you have a taste for soul food but don’t want to put in the effort.
From the cobbler to the cornbread, everything was outstanding! I had smothered chicken, black eyed peas, cobbler, banana pudding and mashed potatoes. The portions were generous and the staff was friendly. I picked up my order but plan on dining in next time since I saw they had a bar.
The food was not really Soul Food, the first time eating at this restaurant, and not only was the food not to standard the baked chicken was dry and cooked to done and the collar greens had a vinegar taste Mac and Cheese was good but not creamy. Our food was served so quick that it looked as if it was warm in the microwave. The food was not served hot. The Carmel Cake was a totally disappointed. Would never go back first impression means a lot also the Manager was not a good representative of his own brand he needs to go back to school on how to communicate with the public. The food seems to be refried chicken and pork chops.
They need to hire real soul food cooks
The food is really not soul food it's more of a after church take the family kind of place. Food has no seasoning just bland. That cornbread was awful ???? dry with no taste ????. I do not recommend this place
I was craving some soul food so we checked out this spot. Family cozy ambiance. I ordered smothered pork chops, Mac and cheese, yams and banana pudding. It wasn’t bad but could have been better. My chops weren’t completely warmed up but I was so hungry I ate fast. Yams were a bit too sweet and the Mac and cheese needed a bit more flavor. Banana pudding was okay. I will definitely give them another try.
I also had the baked chicken, and greens I don't know about anyone else but I would give this place a thousand stars. The food has the best seasoning and it was cooked very well. I can't wait to come here again.
Before we headed to our hotel we wanted some good ole SOUL FOOD. We were searching and searching. The other restaurants closed early. When we stumbled across 6978 their photos spoke for themselves. Their food had been absolutely divine. We had to order an entrée to go and meet the chef. Way to go 6978!
So I’ve ordered from this restaurant before and everything was good. This time I got smothered pork chops Mac and cheese dressing and greens. The pork chops was okay need more seasoning had to add my own. The sides greens dressing and Mac was SO BLAND so I had to add my own seasoning. I got the lunch special so it came with banana pudding not so good either.
