We stopped in for a quick lunch as we were visiting some of the sites in Hilo. We wanted something different and local and came across this as we were walking through the mall. We noted it was a bit pricey but hey it's island prices. I wanted a simple lunch so I tried the saimin. I thought it was very tasty and definitely filled me up. I'd go back again.
Only got coffee and some sweet breads for a quick breakfast before catching a flight home. Service was very friendly and helpful. Coffee was good, and the sweet breads were good. Wish i had time to try the other food.
Our daughter and sister had to go here after hearing recommendations from friends. We were not disappointed! With 10 of us, we tried a variety of items. Fried chicken, spaghetti, teriyaki beef, Zippy's Samin, and coconut cake were our favorites. The waitress was so efficient - she took our orders without writing them down. We decided to ask her where the best shave ice was. She was right!
Love this place. It’s to bad it has made it throughout the states. This place has a lot of Hawaii’s local favorites. Which is very delicious and tasty. With a lot of unique flavors and they have so many decadent desserts to choose from. The staff are very friendly and hospitable. And has two areas you can dine in. The first would be a full service restaurant and the other is like a fast food diner. Both are very good and the prices are very reasonable. Also it’s located in the Prince Kuhio Plaza, but you can spot the entrance from one of the sides entrances. There’s lots of free parking and it’s near other stores and food venues.
Waited 40 minutes to grab a pickup order that was already done (was ignored by a rude cashier) only to have cold food.
I ordered Korean chicken with a side salad w/ house dressing but I guess their cooks must be homeless as the salad had no dressing at all. After reheating my chicken at home, it was decent.
The food was not so great and the service was horrible. The only ones there were my family of 4 and maybe 1-2 other tables with people, so it was pretty slow.
There was an extra 15 wait on some of the food because it wasn't available initially. The manager came out to ask if that was ok and checked to see if we wanted something else in the meantime, which I liked. The waitress didn't check up on us much, and we had to ask a number of times to have our drinks refilled. We got our food and realized she forgot to bring out all the sides we ordered. We were fine without it. Even in the end, she didn't even catch on that she had forgotten, and I asked her to remove it from our receipt.
It's the only Zippy's option on the island, and it turned out to be a big bummer on my 4 day trip to Hilo.
Best Korean fried chicken on the island (and all of Hawaii). Came here as often as possible! Chantilly cake was also great. Huge slices.
Can’t go wrong with Zippy’s! I couldn’t get my Haupia cake, but the lilikoi drink is addictive! No refills on that really stinks, but I get it. My son tried the Korean fried chicken and loves it. Beef teriyaki was tasty as well.
