Fabulous place. Veteran owned and operated, great dog in the place, and a great haircut. It’s first come, first served so if he’s busy it could be a bit but it is well worth it.
A true barber shop for the fellas. Great conversation and a great haircut exactly how I asked for it with a little of the barbers own input to make me walk out in style. Any time I swing through the outer Banks I will be coming through here for a cut.
(Tried to advise me out of the mullet but I wanted to give it a try and he gave me what I was looking for. Many thanks!!)
Great service I was looking for a barber while I was in the area. I waited for a hour or so but i enjoyed the fellowship.
Wanted to get a haircut before my OBX vacation but my regular barber at home was on vacation and I’m so glad he was because I wouldn’t have had the pleasure of finding this place. Cooter is a true patriot and gives great haircuts. His conversations are engaging and entertaining and his dog is awesome, especially with kids. Next time I’m in the OBX I’ll definitely be getting another haircut here!
A former police officer who served in the military. Now he owns his own Barbershop. Straight razor shave with warm shaving creme.
A friendly dog that acts as a greeter. Reminds me of the type of place my grandfather took me to when I was a kid.
I just got the best haircut I've had in very many years (since Wayne's barber shop closed, may the lord rest his soul). This is exclusively a traditional men's haircut old school barber shop. Male veterans, active duty, first responders, and men in general get their haircuts here. Most of the work is done with electric clippers as any short haired male knows, but Cooter knows his way around a pair of scissors and razor blade as well. Moreover he uses them! This is what I remember from the best barber shops of my youth, and here I will continue to return as long as Cooter and I are still alive. He's not a hair dresser. He is however an artist of old school order, and he aims to please.
If gun magazines, hunting dogs and Jesus offend you, don't go here. If you're a sensitive left wing liberal from out of town, definitely don't go here. If military veterans of the male persuasion all waiting in the same room get under your skin, stay far away! If you are in a hurry, don't go here; it is however well worth the wait for a proper haircut.
I would not bring my wife here. Although she would not find it particularly offensive, she would fit in about as much as I would fit in to a Tupperware or makeup party. Results may vary, and small doses might be tolerable for your bride, but they may enjoy leaving you there for a bit to go do more interesting things. I would certainly bring my son here!
I took my 11yr old son here for a haircut as we ran out of time at home before leavingfor vacation. Let's just say my son wants to make it a tradition to get his haircut here every time we come to the OBX! It was our first experience with a barber and it was a memorable one!! ❤️
I love that places like this still exist in America!!! Highly recommend if you want a great haircut with the true barbershop experience. By the time I was walking out the door I felt like I’d known Kooter for years. Oh yeah there’s a super friendly dog that will also treat you like family. I will definitely be going back every time I’m in OBX
