Very acceptable ramen! Taste is fine, equal to a typical ramen place in Japan. Ingredients are good and don’t recommend any addition toppings. The chashu would be odd in Japan, it’s very thick like not a thin slice. Takenoko topping is not worth the order - too hard and only one. If you want extra topping suggest an extra ajitama since only half in the standard order. Noddles are middle thickness. The karage is good. Compared to Japan the pieces are too big and could be juicier but it is not chicken nuggets so no worry. Staff very attentive and good service. I had the hot sake which is heated in a machine that many izakaya in Japan use. Tajima is sort of a cross between a ramen-ya and izakaya you can treat it either way. I expected to be disappointed as wasn’t! Will go again.
It’s definitely nice to have a ramen spot in East Village and the location is close enough to the Gaslamp, but distanced enough to give you some peace from the hectic crowds. I’ve eaten here many times over the years, and have not had any issues with finding street parking. It’s unfortunate the adjacent streets are riddled with so many homeless people, but they stay on the other side of the street. The interior is charmingly decorated and cozy, much preferred to the other Tajima locations.
Service here is overall good, but not as good as it used to be pre-pandemic. The ramen is pretty good, but the temperature of the soup is inconsistent. There have been times where it’s nice and hot, but sometimes it’s like warm. No ramen is enjoyable when the broth isn’t hot. My usual go to is the original Tonkotsu ramen, which they’ve now named: Tajima Ramen ‘23. My partner ordered the Creamy Chicken Ramen, which is pretty good considering it’s chicken broth based. The noodles have a good bounce and bite to them. I always order a Chili Bomb to accompany my ramen for that lovely kick of spiciness. Chicken Karage is usually a fave of mine, but the Karage here is just alright. Its seasoning is on the light side and the spicy mayo is bland.
Overall a decent ramen restaurant that you can always get a quick ramen fix at.
Great ramen (dark garlic oil and bamboo shoots were awesome), dessert, wine and service. Casual lively vibe. Good price too! Satisfied and belly happy.
The spicy sesame ramen is different to the standards yet very delicious. Corn and onions added a nice touch. Would love to come here again when in San Diego:
Thanks for asking about the service. Your food is very good, and service is good in general. But the issue is, we ordered a fried rice besides the two ramens, and for some reason the kitchen team forgot about this dish. We asked for check out anyways, and surprisingly the fried rice was still on the bill and no one noticed it until I double checked it.
Good ramen. Very hot soup and fresh noodles. Pork was excellent.
Peppers were also great.
Service was decent. Had to wait a bit for the check, but it was good otherwise.

This might detract from the overall ambiance and sense of security for some diners. Despite this, the quality of the food and the enjoyable dining experience inside the restaurant remain commendable.

This was a nice option for Ramen just a couple blocks further away from the more busy gaslamp district. The spicy sesame ramen was the real star here. Get an extra half egg. The cold house sake is good for sharing. The food was great.
The service was a bit rushed. Two different people came by every thirty seconds until we ordered. Just a few minutes would have been great for our first visit to review the menu.
