Standing strong ???? since 2010 this suspension pedestrian bridge is a symbolic testament of a resilient thriving community! It's the nature of the beautiful people of Charles City to triumph in the face of adversity; rebuild and survive.
Had a great evening here with my wife and daughter, we walked the trail and loved it, the flowing symphony coming from the Cedar River was so relaxing ???? especially with all the waterfowl around us.
Loved this place ! Nice walk .. I was fortunate to have clear skies and some sun... I saw a few Locals clicking the Prom Evening dressed up photo ! Very cool .. for Solo travelers like me ... I just use the Timer :)
Beautiful scenery. There's a nice trail near the water for bicyclists and walkers/runners. My son and I like to come here to feed the ducks. Not far from here is the city pool and a playground.
I grew up with this bridge being a swinging bridge and after it was taken out by a flood some people who thought they knew better ruined it by building a new bridge that had absolutely nothing to do with the old one. The swinging bridge was an icon of Charles City it was something we were known for. Now it's just a crossing. SAD!
This is an iconic location, and is part of the identity of this town. The old bridge was magnificent, but time and flood took it away. The new one hasn't the character, but has all the heart of the old one. It is part of the city, and we would be lesser without it.
This swinging bridge was a huge part of my childhood. Many fond memories of riding my Schwinn across it and stopping in the middle to make that bridge SWING. So sad it's gone.
