Best WLM Reviews
This place brings Chinese food to a new level. Each dish is well thought out and designed. The presentation of the food is excellent. Service is great. Great place to bring a date or work functions :)
We came on a busy night. I’ve read teviews that service is supposed to be great here. I felt like the waitstaff was a bit understaffed and were hard to track to get what we needed. They came around more towards the end of our meal and apologized for being so busy tho so I guess that’s that.
Our food didn’t arrive all at once which was kind of annoying.
Spicy grilled squid: my fav dish of the night! Tasted almost like a Thai dish with the lime & spicy Thai chili flavor on it! It was super spicy tho, I was the only one in our group who could eat it and actually enjoy it. Yay cuz that’s meant more for me!
Jidori chicken: nice and crispy skin and flavorful meat. Sauces are pretty basic- ketchup & sweet chili sauce. I expected an aioli or other housemade sauce tbh like a soy sauce dip but it was good enough with the sweet chili sauce.
Sautéed eggplant: I love how the eggplant itself is chopped small. It was absolutely fragrant right as the dish was set on our table! There’s a couple pieces of shrimp so vegetarians be aware! It’s a light garlicky sauté that was pretty good. Good serving size too!
Lamb skewer: a little salty but would pair so well with some beer and rice!
A fresh fusion take on food. We loved the Skewers and the Oysters. The garnishing on the lamb skewers was delicious. I loved the pepper and the oysters lived up to the expectations. Remember they have a happy hour on much of the food and you are going to love the food regardless of the prices. We did not experience the wine list or drinks but they had a good option list. The place is lively, bright and fun without being over crowded.
I used to go this restaurant, the food was great . They made fresh vegetable and fresh juicy!
Went back recently, food quality significant goes down. Kind disappointed!
Thanks for the DineLA program, we were able to find this great restaurant with some great seafoods such as steamed scallops and steamed oystets at a great price at $3.98 and $2.98, respectively.
The uploaded pictures are steamed scallops, steamed oystets, garlic chicken wings, W J tofu, tend cubes, sweet & sour shrimp and shortrib & filet mignon skewers. This is only one or a few Chinese restaurants that calculates the sales tax based on pre-tax amount, plus only asks for a 12% services fee, commonly known as tips. The Chinese restaurant is also very clean, but most people do not know it because it is located on the third floor within the Hilton Hotel, San Gabriel.
Food: decent - it's not quite Chinese, definitely fusion of sorts. The scallops were good, as was the garlic eggplant. The salted egg pumpkin was interesting, a wierd combination of flavors that I would not order again. Really good happy hour with cheap beer and a good selection of eats
Service: good, the servers were attentive. They also turned down the AC when we asked since it was so cold.
Ambiance : very nice space, pretty huge. They also had a patio which hadn't been cleaned yet even though it was already June in LA.
Overall, I wouldn't visit again as the food wasn't unique enough to worth a return visit and doesn't satisfy my craving for Chinese food.
High end Chinese food in San Gabriel Valley! Pretty hip place. The Eggplant and Braised Pork is the best!
I used to love Chang'an. What happened? The sign now says Tang Dynasty, so I assumed they closed down, but Google Maps kept not taking my suggestion that it closed down, so I decided to investigate personally.
The windows still said Chang'an so we went in. The menu tablet says Tang Dynasty and 99% of the menu is different. Also the menu says salt and pepper "octopus" but it's just squid/calamari like everywhere else.
Also it smells bad, like cleaning products and rotting garbage at the same time.
I felt guilty leaving; the waitresses were really nice, but I just couldn't stand the smell anymore and nothing on the menu appealed to me except the one thing from the old menu I was afraid wouldn't be the same anyway.
