Enjoyed our stop today. I had the Pork sandwich with mac n cheese, delish! Love that Sweet Sauce! The chopped pork was juicy and tender. My husband had the Prime Rib sandwich with fries. This sandwich was piled high with tender prime rib and balanced nicely with sauteed onions and cheese. He didn't even offer me a bite! Really liked the shabby-chic decor too. We will be back!
Service was great. Food was OK, nothing wonderful. Collards taste like the can, corn nuggets were wonderful, eggrolls were magnificent. Ribs were kind of tough, the turkey was good and the best was pork. I feel the value was overpriced for food being served on Styrofoam and plastic cutlery.
Very nice waitress tried to give us something we could eat. Sliced pork was okay. Sides were terrible (slaw, baked beans, beans and rice, macaroni salad)Fish was good according to our granddaughter , ribs were not good: too tough and greasy. Sorry, we really wanted to like this place. They took our drinks off the bill to make up for not being able to eat the food. Will not go again.
Today is the day after hurricane Irma. We were delighted to see that a place called Backwoods was open so we went inside to ask if they were serving. They said that they were doing a limited menu of orders to go. We glanced around the restaurant, and there were 8 -10 people eating at the tables from styrofoam to-go containers...fine with us.
The man (owner I think) called Danielle (his wife I think thus also an owner) out from the kitchen to let her know thetr were two people who wanted to order. We said, "Hello, Danielle" to which she replied, "I am getting really tired of hearing my name today." I get it. There's no air conditioning and who really wants to be there working, right?
We ordered a prime rib sandwich $7 and pulled pork $5 so a $12 order. We gave her a $20 bill and asked for $3 back. No acknowledgment or thank you...also fine.
The food came out pretty quickly, and we asked if we could sit there to eat as long as we cleaned up after ourselves. She was very clear that it was a to-go order, and we were not welcome to sit there and eat. I couldn't help but wonder why all the other people were allowed to do so? We asked for two waters $1 each (no tip this time) and left with our to-go containers.
I wish I was able to share a different review...about how a bright spot from the hurricane was that we tried Backwoods for the first time. Unfortunately the way that Danielle treated us was enough to keep us from ever returning. It really is a shame, too, because the food is outstanding, and being local, I am sure we would have returned often.
Been there for lunch and dinner now. The bbq is phenomenal. Not sure why there are a couple of complaints about the ribs...the ones that I had were fall-off-the-bone and delicious. Perhaps the best steak in town too.
Our lunch started off pleasant enough, until I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and I asked if they could please cook my chicken well as I prefer dry chicken, our server, who also happened to be the owners response was and I quote "we don't serve raw chicken!" I thought this too be rude to the request of a guest and I did not imply that they serve raw chicken. Then after waiting 45 minutes for our meal, mind you there were only 3 tables including ours at the time, we were informed that I would have to choose something else as they did not have any raw chicken breast. I opted to go with the 1/4 chicken. When it was eventually brought out by the owner she proceeded to inform me that and again I quote "you do know that smoked chicken is pink don't you?, I can't have you wasting any food!" And this was told to me in front of other patrons! My husband's ribs tasted old and were tough and my chicken had absolutely NO taste to it so I tried to use their "sweet bbq sauce " which tasted more like ketchup and sour than sweet. Needless to say we will not be visiting this establishment again. Would've preferred Sonnys!
Awesome! The food was fantastic, full bar. People were super friendly. We met the owner, great lady. We talked to the chef..very talented. We booked our employee Christmas party here...and this was our first time here. Gotta try the backwoods eggrolls...yummy. This place is a class act.
Everything was extremely greasy, this place also costs a bit. If you want some good BBQ head down to 441 and go to the Sonny's. The place is "pretty" but the food didn't match the standards.
