Great comfort food. Each dish is pretty flavorful and the portion is huge. Fast and delicious. It will be great to dine here with more people so you can try more things.
The restaurant offers reasonably priced lunch specials.
Unfortunately, there were two problems with the visit.
One, although they already opened the door to customers, they were still vacuuming the restaurant, even after I have sat in my seat for well over 5 minutes (I did ask if it was ok for me to sit).
The noise was loud and naturally air quality wasn't good since they used industrial grade vacuum. This was extremely disappointing. Even worse, they didn't realize I was ready to order despite attempts to do so after some of th staff finished vacuuming. This was simply not good service.
Then, I was hoping that, since the restaurant staff all spoke Cantonese, at least the food should be good. This expectation arises from stories I have been told, where the general consensus is that the Cantonese speaking Chinese really know cooking well. I can't be certain of whether these stories are true, but I was truly disappointed in the food as well.
I ordered sweet and sour fish over rice. It looked pretty good but it was not sweet but excessively acidic. If it weren't for the amount of rice which was given, I don't think I would have been able to eat the fish.
Therefore, I can't recommend the restaurant for service or taste.
However, the amount given was ample for around $12 (with tips included) for a restaurant, especially considering that it is in the City of Millbrae.
I therefore would recommend it if you want something reasonably affordable, without expecting good service or taste.
Beautiful Chinese dining experience.
The food tastes authentic, and the servers are so attentive and courteous.
I will come again.
Do not eat here. I ordered two chicken broccoli dishes for delivery. The total was $57 and the chicken still had the skin on it as seen in the picture. A pound of broccoli in a sauce I've never seen before and no white rice. I called and asked where was the rice for my dish at $57 and I was told it doesn't come with it. Order at your own risk. This place is horrible.
Food: 3.5-5 depending on the dish.
Service: 5/5 (no problems for us)
Value: 3/5
Ambiance: Casual, but they have a nicer feel than a typical traditional Chinese restaurant.
We ordered the clay pot eel fried rice and the braised pork belly with eggplant.
The pork belly to me was a 5/5 for those who like the sauce a bit sweeter. The eel claypot fried rice was a 3/5 and quite pricey. The eel was kinda bland but the fried rice was good.
I’d come back to try lunch specials, rice rolls, other dishes and for specific dishes, but some dishes are definitely a pass.
We tried this ???? restaurant in Millbrae for lunch. They have a decent offering for lunch plates ????️ at $9.9, which I felt was a great value for both the food quality and the quantity. The tofu with pork was really nice. The steamed rice rolls were a revelation. The braised duck ???? with ginger was just okay. Staff is friendly and they try to do their best in spite of some language barriers. We'll definitely return for more!
I like Taishan food. It's a bit different from the usual Cantonese cuisine we get in the Bay Area. My family and I, 12 of us ordered a variety of dishes. The standouts for me were the chive flowers with crispy fish and squid, the crispy baby shrimps in a sweet soy sauce, the eel claypot rice (Taishan specialty), clams in black bean sauce (standard Cantonese fare, but still good). I like deep fried pig intestines,. Theirs are battered and fried. I like mine without batter, so the sleeves are crispy like pork rind. The other dishes were good. The prices are a bit more than your average Chinese restaurant, but we'd ask ourselves, "was it worth it", I'd yes. That ultimately determines if we'd come back again. Service is friendly.
Food was delicious and portions are large, but price is a little expensive. Most of the good Chinese restaurants that used to be open late in the area close early after the pandemic, so I appreciate that this is one of the only ones that is still open late. I would come again especially after a late flight from SFO!
