Lush, shady trail in old-growth forest leading to Gerdamann botanical gardens. Loved the mulch trail lined with a variety of ferns, surrounded by towering trees. Several types of berries on the trail including red and black huckleberries and Salal berries. So many interesting plants including rhododendrons in the botanical garden. Trail parking is at the end of Diversity Dr. We chose to hike out and back to avoid walking along Hwy 101.
Short trail, it was well maintained and leads you to a botanical garden walk through. I would say it's a good beginner hike/walk with gradual incline and steps. There are no dogs allowed at the botanical garden but the rest of trail you can bring a dog. Not stroller/wheelchair friendly. Mostly shaded, it doesn't lead to a view point but the trail itself is the beauty.
Great little trail tucked behind an apartment complex in Yachats, perfect for a morning hike after breakfast before you hit the beach. The trail starts uphill & has some stairs, so not accessible for wheelchair users. It's .9 miles and ends at the Gerdemann Botanical Preserve, which is only open by appointment. It's a beautiful forest and the path is well maintained. Look for blooming Trillium in the spring.
Scenic hike through old growth forest. Trail is muddy in spots during rainy season. There is a botanical garden at the end but they don’t allow dogs past the gate. I highly suggest turning around and following the trail back the way you came unless you want to walk through a residential area and then down Hwy 101 to get back to where you started. 0.8 miles each way.
This is an excellent forest and hill trail but is not well marked at the end. You start off at the end of Diversity Street at the northern end of Yachats. There is a parking lot to the right at the end of an apartment complex. The trail has a sign at the head telling of the native Americans it is named after and a bit of their history.
You begin with a steep trail up and are greeted by at least one other sign telling the sad history of how the native people were treated. The trail itself is moderately steep in places but is well-made with natural stairs.
The scenes are wonderful including stately trees and ferns, a small creek trickling through the underbrush and the sound of songbirds filling the air.
But be careful. After climbing up to the top then heading back down you come to a "T" in the trail. We went right (north) and passed by the entrance to the botanical garden. Then you are dumped out in someone's driveway. We went back the other way and ended up on Ocean Way which is one block north of Diversity. There isn't a good way to cross the highway (101) and no trail markings. The map we looked at indicated that you cross and walk by the ocean then back over at Diversity but again- no markers!
This is a nice hike - a bit of incline but nothing arduous by any means. There are some cool informative posts along the way that teach about the Ya'Xaik tribe and other tribes of this area. It ends at Gerdemann Gardens which is a nice stroll through a coastal botanical garden which hosts some massive rhododendrons, Sitka Spruce and other neat native flora. You will have a short stroll on the highway when you get back to the 101 if you parked at the apartment entrance, so be warned. It is not treacherous, but a slight risk for sure.
Beautiful, lush, short hike. Was able to do it bare foot as there was a soft ground with plenty of steps installed on inclines. Trees were unreal. Loved it
Absolutely beautiful spot. We went in winter. Very quiet, just the sound of the sea and a stream. The trail is well maintained and short but with a pretty steep climb and descent.
At the beginning of the trail there are some in good reminders that people loved this land before the coming of Europeans... And that they were not treated kindly.
