Best WLM Reviews

Woodgrain Pizzeria seemed to have the best reviews of any food offerings on my recent layover at Midway so even though my gate was in B terminal I had plenty of time to walk to their location in A terminal. The employee that took my order was very nice, and I appreciated that you are not pressed to give a 20% or more tip at checkout like most places. My order was made, and after watching the gal that was preparing pizza, I wasn't too hopeful for a good outcome. She slid the pizza so hard off the board into the oven that half of my pizza slid off and proceeded to smoke and burn in the fired oven. The gal that took my order noticed. She could have looked the other way and let me have a half burned/ half topped pizza, but she didn't. She took it out and threw it away, cleaned up the mess in theoven, and proceeded to make a freshly made pizza for me. She then apologized for the delay and offered to comp me a beverage which I didn't need so I thanked her directly for making me a new pizza and tipped her directly for her efforts cleaning up after the other employee's mess. I didn't catch her name, but if you worked lunch shift on May 21st and see this review, thank you! Your attention to detail and customer service was awesome and will take you places in your future. Pizza was okay for airport food! Airline staff was ordering lunch there, too, and they probably are in the know for best locations to eat from on break in the airport!
My first time at this airport, I had a few different options for pizza, and based on reviews and pictures I decided to check this place out on my 5-hour layover.
I got the Sausage and Pepper Specialty Pizza and added banana peppers. Service was quick, there was no line around 5pm on a Sunday. Pizza was better than I expected, the only issue I had is that the slices weren't fully cut and when I would pull up the pizza the entire top would slide off. I ended up having to cut it with a knife and put the toppings back on the pizza. Other than that everything else was good.
Also tried their Joe's Half and Half Tea, it was very tasty but 50 some grams of sugar.
The pizza is cooked fresh and came out in about 7 minutes, so I appreciated that it’s a quick option. However… $22 for an average plain cheese pizza with no toppings is highway robbery.
Had a long layover and looked for a good pizza. Woodgrain had almost no line at 3:30PM & reviews were decent. Prices are airport high ($21,99), but had a very good double pepperoni pizza in under 5 min. Pizza size is adequate for two, or one very hungry guy. It is worth a revisit next time I'm in Chicago-Midway.
Folks are raving about this pizza as we walk by. So we gave it a try. I would say it's good in a pinch because it's fast but the dough is very chewy. Flavor good not great. For in a rush, it's a good option.
Woodgrain was recommended to me by Chicago Midway employee on the basis they make the pie fresh in front of you.
They do! It's good pie. However, unless you're VERY hungry, dining for more than one, or picking up a pizza you intend to eat for more than one meal, be aware that the Personal Pizza is in fact the Kid's Pizza, and you get your choice of one cheese, or five cheese, without any toppings. So if you're a solo traveler and not starving hungry, but have a hankering for beef, olives and banana peppers, Woodgrain may not be for you.
I travel frequently through Chicago-Midway and thought I'd try Woodgrain on my recent layover. I understand that my flight was the last departing flight of the evening, but I felt the service was sub-par: the male behind the cash register bemoaned to his coworker that they'd surely not be able to go home before 10:30pm (as I stood there awkwardly, feeling like I was inconveniencing them). This would not have been a big deal, as I work in the hospitality industry and we all have our days. However, I asked if the margherita pizza came with tomatoes and basil, and if I could please order extra--but was told that it just came with marinara sauce and cheese (never mind that the menu stated the ingredients displayed on the wall). When my plain cheese pizza was ready, I requested a side of ranch and was told "sorry, we're out." My pizza came out to $22.34 including tax. I then walked over to Harey Carey's for my side of ranch, and tipped the gentleman who went out of his way for the kind gesture. A little service goes a long way for a weary traveler! Three stars for the pizza because it was delicious and served piping hot--but if you're looking for fresh basil and tomatoes on your margherita this is NOT the place.
Best food I’ve had at midway airport!! The pizza is made from fresh ingredients and cooked on the spot, so make sure you have about 15 minutes to wait for it. Two of us ordered a salad to share and each a pizza, we carried the left overs onto the plane and ate them for the lunch the next day, and it was still amazing.
