I love staying at this classic old school motel when I return to Redfield to see my mom. It’s clean and the beds and pillows are very comfortable. It’s also inexpensive. But sadly, the owner, Mr. Duane Puffer, passed away in the fall of 2023 and his daughter is looking for a buyer. The last time I stayed there in November, she stated that it will be closed at the end of the year. I will really miss staying there in the future.
This place is a pull your car to the front door type place. Great location to Redfield. If you hunt pheasant or have business in Redfield this place is a great value, large rooms, close to shopping.Rooms are mid century modern but clean. This is a good stay for longterm, on the cheap, central location.
This is an older motel that has been in Redfield forever. The rooms are classic old school and outdated. But they are clean and the beds and pillows for me were very comfortable. Don't base your stay on how the office looks as it's run by an der gentleman who has made this motel his life. It's a no frills or amenities motel, your typical old school place. But comfortable
Never been there, but travelers should know that over the years many famous celebrities who came to hunt birds and pheasants nearby stayed at Wilson’s. Ted Williams, Evel Kneivel, Henry (don’t call me Hank) Aaron, to name a few.
I'm giving it 5 stars for surpassing my expectations of a typical "old school motel"
I work construction and spend a majority of my week days in a hotel and this place was as clean as most of the popular hotel chain places and far cheaper. Don't expect all the fancy updated amenities.
Last but not least the older gentleman working the front was very nice.
I would come back again!
Had the the time of my life.many great memories with the owner at the time. Mr.Duane Puffer my dear friend
While travelling through South Dakota with a friend of mine we were in need of lodging on Highway 212 and arrived in Redfield which bills itself as the pheasant capital of the world! We'd checked out the available accommodations and there's not a large selection so we chose the Wilson Motor Inn and were pleasantly surprised. The Wilson is a classic old single story motel built alongside the highway. The building faces a large gravel parking lot (great since we had a boat trailer attached) and a strip of vegetation. Easy access and egress for almost any vehicle or vehicle combination. The Manager, Duane Puffer, is a taciturn fellow. He gets things done but don't expect to engage in lengthy conversation. He did recommend Roosters as a place to eat and it was fine, a combination pub, restaurant, American Legion sort of place. Good food. The rooms are clean and have been renovated, at least ours was. Beds were a bit hard if that's an issue for you. The AC works in a spectacular fashion. Plenty of cupboard space particularly the bathroom. It's the kind of motel where road crews and construction workers stay but mid-week I wasn't aware of other tenants until I saw them checking out next morning. At $40 a night The Wilson is one of America's last bargains!
This motel has been in the city for many years. I had never stayed there before, but I will book this motel in the future! From the shag carpets to the swag lamps, the room screamed 60's. It was cleaned beautifully, had WI-FI and shelving space in the bathroom for toiletries. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience!
