We were having a little staycation this weekend downtown since MN winters are way too long. We stayed at the Holiday inn next to this restaurant. As a person of color in MN, I should had seen it coming the moment we stepped into this dirty looking bar and got sit in some obscure corner of the place. My 7 year old daughter was hungry, so we left my husband in the room who was still sleeping and went downstairs to eat at 9:00am here and within 15 minutes my white husband joined us and placed his order. That was 15 minutes later after we had placed ours. He had his coffee and order within 7 minutes tops. My daughter and I did not get ours until an hour later. The manager went by and I asked about our order and she said” Your order may had been accidentally taken to another table”. I don’t know if that was her way of apologizing. Not only was she not apologetic, she was rude too when I said my daughter was hungry and I wanted to cancel order. I also asked if she could get some toast in the meantime and she said, no the order is coming??!! The place was not full and most people were ordering coffee. As a person of color encountering this type of situations in Minnesota is not unusual but happens more often than I can stand it sometimes. While the food was okay, I can grab a couple of fried eggs and toast else where for $30.00 and get better service. Yes, I am sure my order went to a table with white customers. Did I mention my daughter and I were the only people of color here? I can’t understand how people lack empathy even with children. Don’t come to this racist establishment.
A buddy and I came in to have a couple of drinks and an appetizer before some afternoon errands. The bartender a Hispanic male was very nice and attentive. We ordered chicken tenders and fries, the tenders came out in about 10 mins but the fries did not. They said the fries would be out shortly after but we ate all of the tenders and the fries did not come out so I told them they could cancel them. The bartender was great and tried to take them off no problem. The bartender said he was taking the tenders off for the trouble but when we got the bill the tenders were not taken off. We kindly told them bartender that the tenders were never removed and he proceeded the tell the manager. The manager had the biggest attitude with the bartender asking him if we ate the tenders. The bartender says yes they did then the manger (white female) says ok then and walks away angrily. I had no problem with paying for the chicken tenders but I was confused they were still on the bill after they said they had taken them off. The manager was very rude to not only the bartender but us as well. She never came to us and said anything at all she just spoke to the bartender very harshly. I’ve been here when it was a lot busier and have had a great experience. It sucks that I had such a poor experience especially when there was only a couple of people in the restaurant. I hope someone has a talk with the manager about her communication skills and her management skills because the bartender did not deserve to be talked to like that.
So at first the bartender at the bar was very rude and obnoxious for no apparent reason. She was screaming and yelling at me and my sister literally for no reason and attempted to kick us out the bar but we left and asked to speak with the manager who quickly came over to us and was a great person! We spoke with her and explained what happened, she apologized and bought us two drinks and service after that was so much better.
This truly was a real experience. I know Mac n cheese is important to wisc. But I know this is Minnesota which is perfect but after been worn out from the highway this was my second stop for the evening. The skittle full of Mac n cheese along with the corn bread wedge was excellent. Zero complaints here. A very cool establishment.
Nice little sports bar. Plenty of large tables for big parties. Lots of TVs around the bar. My server was very nice and friendly.
As for the food: As usual I had to have nachos. I ordered the appetizer plate of nachos. Typically it comes with all the fixings, but apparently it's not normal to just want meat, cheese, jalapeños,and lettuce (they forgot the lettuce). Either way it was really good. Just about every chip had some cheese on it, which was really delicious. The meat and jalapeños were perfect. The quantity was good enough for me for a good meal. I'll have to go again to try out their ribs!
It wasn't obnoxiously loud like some saloons/bars I've been to, dim lighting, I'd take my family there. It's located right on the strip, not the nicest of locations at night, but just fine during daylight hours.
First night we came in was an experience we will not forget. Our Bartender Megan was amazing but her manager Joe topped the cake. They both made us feel welcomed and after a long day of traveling for the Minnesota State Fair, he knew exactly what to order us. Wings were on point, curds were the best and the drinks hit the spot. Above all, the service was unforgettable as we really felt like we were being cared for on a family level. Thanks Wild Bills for making our time in Minnesota a moment to remember.
P.S. We became repeats over the next few days and not just because the place is attached to the hotel it’s because the food is dang delish!!! Ribs are fall off the bone (highly recommend the honey BBQ.) Burgers are stacked! Seasonal Chicken wrap was the bomb and the cheese curds just kept calling our names.
My wife is over 30 years old and she got her ID taken. Obviously over 21 (no offense to her lol) and obviously a real id but took it from us and had to fight to get it back. They clearly love the drama here. Wouldn’t recommend
Update 1/31/24: They replied as you can read below with their own false narrative. MN has new IDs and if they took customer service and the law seriously they would stay up to date with these things. Never have had an issue with it except for this instance.
All i know is go there at your own merit and even if your 30 or 40 make sure you have every legal document including your birth certificate to get an overpriced drink.
We LOVE this bar. Eagle Street was our go to for after Wild games, but then they closed and we needed to find a new after bar. We tried other bars, but none fit what we needed. Then we tried Wild Bills and it was PERFECT. It was the atmosphere, service, kindness, all of it, rolled in one little package. We were won. The icing on our cake, and why we'll never go anywhere else is their bouncers. CJ and Chris made sure that a wayward cabby, who wouldn't listen, didn't make off with my best friend. Not only did they make him move along and look for someone who ACTUALLY requested service, but they stayed with her while she finished her cigarette, and then made sure she reconnected with me when she came back inside. Safely. I can't tell you enough how much this is appreciated, from both of us. We won't go anywhere else after Wild games because not only do we love PJ and his music selection, but we feel safe and seen not just as a dollar transaction, but people who deserve to feel safe. 10/10
