The Cannery Kitchen and Tap is a lively place in Castro Valley Marketplace. It has both indoor and outdoor seating options. Extensive breakfast and brunch menu. We ordered The Tucker - poached eggs and salmon on biscuits, The Boulevard - poached eggs on chickpea cake and Betty's Down Home burger - buttermilk fried chicken burger. The food was good but the poached egg was not runny and tasted more like boiled egg. The hollandaise sauce was good. My friend liked the fried chicken burger and smoked salmon.
After brunch/lunch, you can check out the marketplace and head to Lake Chabot (8-10 min drive).
We had our dog with us and needed a place where we could get yummy food and sit outside by the heat lamps and this was a great choice!
My husband and I split the Cubano sandwich with fries and the beet and arugula salad. The sandwich was excellent and the salad was ok but it was a great balance to the sandwich.
The fries were delicious with ketchup. They must have been double fried to be so crispy.
I had an IPA that I enjoyed. Service was great and everyone was very friendly and helpful. I would definitely try this place again when we pass through Castro Valley
This place has a lot of alcohol if you like that. They don't have gluten-free options. They give you a flimsy paper straw with your drink which is kind of gross to drink from. Mom got iced mocha. We shared garlic fries. Order was $11.58 total. The patio with the tables is nice. The prices are decent but they want you to pay and tip even before you get your order which I don't like. The chairs are extremely uncomfortable to sit in when outside at the tables.
I love Castro Valley Marketplace a true gem in the East Bay. The Cannery Kitchen and tap is inside the marketplace which has inside and outside seating. On Fridays there was a tiki bar pop up which was a lot of fun.
Food was good and generous amount of fries. I got the fried chicken sandwich which was more saucey and sugary than I would have preferred. My friend got the turkey million dollar bacon and avocado sandwich which she liked.
Note that the hot sandwiches aren’t available until after 3pm which was a bummer we had to wait a while before we ordered. Curious why they need to do that. Many customers were also thrown off by that.
The food has been really good so far, I have only been here twice and both times I had the Betty Down Home chicken sandwich with fries. The only difference is one of the times they added the spicy honey directly to the sandwich and the other time it came on the side which I prefer as it keeps the bun from falling apart.
I will definitely be coming back to try different items on the menu.
Could only order fries and the garlic fries have way too much chunky raw garlic, wheew! Drink is good (mocha iced coffee) but straw is rolled cardboard with irritating texture. The bill expects a tip before you even got your order which is irritating. So the worst thing is it's location at an organic food store with not a single gluten free item in the menu. This I am stuck with fries, and that is a huge flaw. The outdoor setting is nice at night.
- Casual eatery with indoor and outdoor seating
- Order at counter and food is brought to table
- Order by phone available for indoor seating
- Service was good. 5 stars.
- Unfortunately I was not impressed with my food.
- "Fish and Chips" - fish had good crunch but lacked any flavor, the sauce provided was more of a thin aioli than a tartar sauce, fries were very very salty - like burn your tongue salty
- May give it another shot with another dish
First time eating at the cannery, met friend for brunch and tried the lemon ricotta pancakes and home fries. Good food, decent service. We ate inside would check out the outside seating area on next visit.
Decent amount of parking, it got really crowded at lunch time.
