Favorite pizza spot in Taos! Highly recommend the carnivore pizza, it was served hot with a yummy braided crust topped with sesame seeds. Def must try the Greek salad, topped with alfalfa sprouts that make it a flavorful combination. Friendly waitstaff and great local beers.
Hit or miss dinner service. This experience was horrible, not the first, my daughter had to get up half a dozen times to request water, her salad that was sitting at the station for over 45 min, 2 plus hours for food altogether pizza had been sitting under a heat lamp for who knows how long, the owner was present but made a horrible comment about us seating ourselves. Did not care to check on is. Arrived at 451pm, our check was printed at 7:02pm. 5 tables came and left before we even got our food. The restaurant was seated not more than 7 other tables who came and left the whole time we were there. Off day? Everyone seemed under the influence of some substance. Disappearing for long periods of time, to their vehicles and bathroom. However, I ate with my son during the day the day before with Juanita, who is amazing btw! Lunch service with Juanita is always prompt and the food is always delicious, she even makes them delicious watered down lemonade i love it for the kids not so sweet. I always hesitate to come here for dinner or depending on the wait staff unless Juanita is here. There absolutely is a Juanita who works there she is local we love her! Best waitress this place has had in a long time! This is disappointing because I worked in the restaurant business for 12 years. And I always tip well to give the benefit of the doubt because I know how demanding food service industry is. Ordered a specialty pizza that we get every time and had to send it back. Bummer because this place is a place we bring guests visiting and highly recommend. Won’t be referring them for dinner service. Silverware was dirty, beer glass was chipped. I guess it didn’t matter that my 12yoa daughter noticed the owner’s eye-roll and was offended and wanted to leave since then. It’s too bad, this place has been a family favorite for over 25 years. Probably won’t be back unless I can scout the staff prior to seating. I’m reluctant to leave a review and say goodbye to this place but there’s absolutely no integrity.
Please meet Kim, she is the owner of Taos Outback Pizza. I would say she is the proud owner, but it is 100% clear she does not care about the establishment or her employees. I know this first hand because of my experience there today.
To put this in perspective, we walked in the door at about 12:00pm and only two other tables were being occupied. We ordered our food at 12:19pm. We received our salads and one of our kids cheese pizzas, but at 1:24pm, I went and asked the lady at the cash register how much longer. That lady was Kim. One would think after waiting that long she would at least apologize and try to make it right, but the truth is, she didn’t care and it showed. We asked for our food to go at that point, and even though we confirmed our order was right on the receipt, it wasn’t right at all.
When asked where the owner was, we were told she was hiding her face in her car. That right there should tell you about how this establishment is ran. Turns out, this dimensioning establishment is up for sale. I would think twice before purchasing, or even visiting, the business she is single handedly running into the ground.
Some of the best pizza I ever ate! Service was good but very slow. In fact we ordered take out one night, said 45 minutes....went to pick up, said another hour....went to pick up said 30 more minutes....we canceled our order. We ended up going to dine in the next day. Still slow, but so yummy!
I have known of Taos Pizza Outback since the first time I visited Taos from NC in 2009 (back when I could still eat cheese). Since 2009 I've had Lyme's Disease and other health/diet up/downs so the quality of ingredients, style of food, menu, and attention to my request for no cheese is very important to me. And the dough is great!! I love the sesame seeds!!!
I have also worked at a pizza joint in a tourist town that did not hit any of those points. I was a line cook, oven cook, salad line, dough maker, dough stretcher, and sometimes front of house for about two years. I know what it takes for a place to run in a tourist town and then to have great quality is a challenge! Taos Pizza Outback is exceptional in every way and also being realistic.
If you are passing through Taos or any place and anywhere, practice kindness and patience to get the service you deserve back.
Love this place! If we are near Taos, we plan our trip around having a meal here! The Shelley Greek salad is to die for...especially with their homemade pesto dressing! Also, their pizza crust has sesame seeds on it & tastes delicious! This old house-turned-restaurant offers outdoor seating under huge shade trees with eclectic decor surroundings. Like I said, this is one of my favorite spots in all of New Mexico!
My son and I had lunch here today and it was awesome! I got the shredded pizza gluten free. It was excellent. My son created his own white pizza, regular crust, and couldn't stop raving about the taste and crust. Definitely a must when in Taos.
Do not miss this spot! Breakfast is AMAZING here! Had the Breakfast Gumbo and the Benedict, and both were superb! Cute and clean place to warm up & fuel up before heading to ski/snowboard.
