I was admitted for day surgery and I can not fault the staff from arriving till I was discharged. Going to theatre and then in recovery my experience was that I was treated as an individual and everything was explained to me. There has been a lot of negativity regarding the public health system but for me it was the opposite. The doctors, specialists, anesthesiologist, and nurses were wonderful

Terrible service. A&E is overloaded. There are no after hours Doctor services in Southland so you have no choice but to go to Southland Hospital. You’ll be waiting for over 6 to 8 hours for treatment. When I was there people were waiting in severe pain with no help. The people waiting were becoming agitated and upset. It was a terrible experience.

We spent the best part of 12 hrs in the ED, my wife was treated by the most kind, compassionate and professional staff I've ever encountered in the health system. Despite their clear lack of staff and having worked overtime they where all lovely and went above and beyond. The smiling orderlies in the hall way, the food cart lady, the cafe staff, the nurses and doctors. Everyone was so kind and caring. Thanks so much.

I was transported here from Queenstown after needing gallbladder surgery. I was fasted ready for surgery and transported 250km by ambulance.

When I got to Southland Hospital, they told me to forget whatever I was told, and they'd probably just give me anti-biotics and send me back to Australia in a few days. In the beds around me were people crying from unattended pain or botched treatment.

We left immediately and it saved my life.

I got into surgery at the earliest possible time after I got back to Australia, and they said I was hours away from dying. My gallbladder was hemorrhaging, rotting and started going gangrene. I had fluid on the lungs and lost a lot of blood.

If I had followed the advice of the ED and waited, I would have died.

I'm so grateful I had the option of choosing another hospital. I sincerely feel very sorry for those in this town where this is their only option. I can only recommend always try to get a second opinion if it doesn't seem right.

the most ATROCIOUS, VILE, DISGUSTING hospital i have ever had the misfortune of going to. My boyfriend and I waited 8 WHOLE HOURS to be seen for his severe dental pain and NEVER WAS SEEN. I am DISGUSTED at our health system here in Invercargill. All we needed was some strong pain medication to ease his toothache he has to endure on a regular basis but nah, apparently he isn't serious enough to be seen. Everyone else was seen except for us. DISGUSTING. Don't expect to be taken seriously and if you do get seen, it'll probably be within 8 hours maybe more. AN ABSOLUTE JOKE

They gave us lollipops when we were lacking sugar content whilst waiting for a friend to get medical attention. Thank you lots!!!!!

I am so grateful and blessed for my Hysterectomy procedure on the 8th of August. God provided me such an amazing doctors(very well done surgery), nurses and staffs for taking care of me for the entire journey since from the start. I had been guided all the way. On behalf of my family, we would like to say thank you very much from the bottom of our heart. God bless you all. ❤️????

Excellent care. My son broke his arm on the trampo, took him in, they fixed him up in no time. Professional and compassionate staff.
