This is my go to spot while I wait on my son getting his hair done at barbershop next door. Owner is always pleasant and helpful. Food and drinks are good. Previously I had the turkey burger and fries. This day I opted for the fish sandwich. It was fresh and very tasteful. This place is a must try!!
This place is a vibe! It’s a super small and cozy atmosphere and the music was on point. The food is amazing! I’d eat everything on the menu. They have the perfect fry, full bar and the price point is right. I highly recommend Charlene’s. It’s the one with the neon “open” sign.
This was my first time visiting Charlene's and to say the least I was not that impressed. The setting is tight and small, so I really did not have much room or space plus there was a party going on as well. The service was super slow, took forever to receive a menu and to order my drinks. I placed an order for the lamb chops, greens, and mac and cheese, I also ordered 3 wings from the appetizer menu. I honestly did not have a problem with my first entrée, but the fried chicken was old and taste stale. The inside of the chicken was brown and just disgusting to say the least. My issue is that if you know your chicken is old and stale, don't sell it to customers. The crazy part is that I had placed an order for the smoked wings, but they came back after 30 mins stating they did not have any grilled or smoked wings, and that fried was the only option. My drinks were watery and I feel like my experience could have been better.
Listen. This food was fantastic. I love soul food and have been to many a soul food spot. This was the best cabbage and greens I've ever had. And my daughter said the wings were divine. And Charlene herself came out and showed love. Def check this joint out.
THE FOOD IS GOOD. I HAPPENED TO GO ON A QUIET NIGHT. IT'S A SMALL PLACE. NICE ATMOSPHERE. IT'S GOOD FOR AN EASY DATE NIGHT OR A GATHERING OF THREE OR FOUR FRIENDS.
OTHER REVIEWS MADE COMMENTS ABOUT THE STAIRS LEADING TO THE DOOR. IT'S 37 STEPS FROM THE STREET TO THE UPSTAIRS DINING AREA.
THE FOOD WAS SERVED IN "TO GO" CONTAINERS. I DON'T KNOW IF THAT'S EVERY NIGHT. IT SAVED THE TROUBLE OF HAVING TO ASK FOR CONTAINERS. IF THAT SORT OF THING BOTHERS YOU, IT COULD BE A TURN OFF.
OVERALL, A NICE PLACE. 4.25.
Awesome dining experience!
Came here for a quick bite with my pops for his birthday! Decided to order the Beef Brisket with Corn pudding and Mac n’ Cheese. AMAZING!
My pops had a lamb burger with a side of fries! I tried to get him a larger platter, but he wasn’t too hungry. Next time!
After cleaning our plates we washed the meal down with a Mango Margarita and a Corona (with lime!).
Great service from the bartender! They even have a bowl of treats upstairs for you to snack while waiting.
10/10 Highly Recommend!
Baaaabbbbyyyyyyy!!!!!!! If you want some tasty food, they will never disappoint! My bartender was Queen, and nothing I write will express the excellent customer service and sweetness I received. She‘s the best on dem drinks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just pull up and leave well-fed and tipsy ????
I was passing through the area with my daughter and we stopped by for supper. Everything we ate was on point! Greens, meatloaf, corn bread, brisket, sweet potato pie, and mashed potatoes were all out of this world. While a lot of places serve this type of food, Charlene's was definitely a cut above the rest. A mother/son duo run the place and after eating their food and talking with the chef, you can see they have pride in their craft and are not cutting corners. Service was great too-we will be back!
