Food was heavenly. I had the smothered pork chops. The collard greens got even better. Very unique taste. Service was quick, professional, and friendly. I ordered a box of food and ate inside. A staff member asked how I enjoyed my meal before I left. Also friendly and welcoming.
The first eating at Carolina Kitchen in years. This is the new restaurant in the old Hampton Mall. Food much better. The also have plant based foods. Friendly atmosphere. LOVED the hostess. "Welcome, Welcome, Welcome"
This food was sooooooo good. I popped in here around 9:30 and they close at 10 but they still had everything as if it was the middle of the day! Eveything looked fresh like they just made it and they even have plant based options as well. The atmosphere is super chill so if I wanted to sit down and eat I could. The lady at the front door was super welcoming when I came in and very hospitable when it was time to leave. I got the jerk chicken. The chicken didn’t really taste too jerky but it was falling off the bone and seasoned so good, I didn’t care. The greens had a nice flavor and they had turkey meat in them which is always a plus since I don’t eat pork. The mac was seasoned a little and tasted pretty darn good. The cornbread was super soft and sweet. Will definitely return next time I’m in DC
I don't give out five stars too often. My girlfriend and I was visiting. We were doing 2 days of museums and what not in DC. Had a hotel nearby. Best food we had since we visited. A little pricey but you get a lot out of your buck. They don't cheat you on your food. Highly recommend. It could be slight busy. It could be just because of the time we went. But if it's busy it must be good

Their Creole Grilled Salmon Platter (Grilled salmon with crab meat, shrimp, on a bed of mashed potatoes, Mac n cheese, & greens $39).
The Salmon….LIKE THAT!! A creamy Cajun mild sauce, well cooked shrimp & crab!!
The Mashed Potatoes…DELICIOUS! Good, I would’ve just chose a rice for this.
STAMP their Greens!! Full of flavor, not overly salted, tasty!!
Their Mac n Cheese…LIKE THAT!! Creamy, I tasted a multi cheese blend!!
Their 3 Piece Fried Chicken Meal (A fried chicken Breast, wing, & a drum sitting on rice & gravy, with 2 sides of your choice-yams, potato salad, & cornbread $20).
STAMP the Fried Chicken!! Crispy, juicy, my GO TO when here!!
The Yams…STAMP!! Imagine how surprised I was when I dipped into what I thought weee BEANS!! Sweet, gooey goodness!!
The Potato Salad…DELICIOUS! Yes the vegetarian salad was better…more flavor!!
STAMP that buttery sweet cornbread!!
Their Chesapeake Platter (with spicy wings, a crab cake, fried shrimp, a fried lobster tail, with 2 sides of your choice-I got their plant based potato salad, & greens just to try $60).
The Lobster…LIKE THAT!! Now the SAUCE put on this platter was super salty on this day. But the proteins w/o the sauce HIT!!
The Crab Cake…LIKE THAT!! Meaty, & well fried!!
The Shrimp…LIKE THAT!! Plentiful, crisp!!
The Wings…DELICIOUS! The sauce was sweet & tangy, I just needed them more crispy.
The Plant Based Potato Salad…LIKE THAT!! This surprised me!! Tasty, creamy, & hearty!!
The Plant Based Greens…DECENT. Hearty, but I needed more flavoring.
Their Plant Based Sampler (their faux shrimp, crab cake, bbq chicken, & meatballs. Rice, beans, mac n cheese, & chickpeas *Gifted* they wanted me to try it). All these items were BETTER than your average plant based food…but come in and judge these for yourself!!
Their Plant Based Chocolate Cake, & Carrot Cake ($8 each). STAMP them both!! If I didn’t know they were plant based…I couldn’t tell!!

Went here today to experience the newly opened restaurant and I really enjoyed my visit I was greeted at the door and given a brief overview of the menu. I have been waiting for this location to open since I live only 5 minutes away. I had the fried whiting dinner with mac n cheese, collard greens, potato salad, a single pork chop and the cornbread muffin comes with it and let me tell you everything was a 10/10 highly recommend!! ???? so delicious and I will be returning to try some new items. It is absolutely beautiful the decor is so elevated. If I could make two suggestions it would be to display a menu with prices and lower the music volume it was difficult to communicate with the servers behind the counter.
I came to check out the plant based options. I grew up loving Carolina kitchen so having a vegan version really warmed my heart and I enjoyed most of the plant based options I tried. However, the plant based Mac and cheese needs work. It tastes like glue and lacked flavor. I’ve been vegan for five years and had to learn the hard way with vegan Mac. I’ve finally perfected it after trial and error. But please take it off the menu and fix it or use better ingredients and seasonings.
Carolina Kitchen's stylish ambiance and chilled vibe create a welcoming atmosphere for diners. The aesthetic likely adds to the overall dining experience, making it an enjoyable place to relax and enjoy a meal. However, for individuals not accustomed to American cuisine, the food might be perceived as overly sweet. This could be due to the prevalence of sweet flavor profiles in many American dishes, which may not align with the preferences of those from other culinary backgrounds. Overall, Carolina Kitchen seems to offer a visually appealing setting with potentially flavorful dishes, but the sweetness level of their food could be a consideration for some diners.
