Not from the area and came out the way to grab ice cream before leaving and this is what I got. Suppost to be hot fudge on vanilla .. when went back to get more fudge was told they don’t sale toppings. Very disappointed and for 6$ one scoop. Never again. Keep searching.
So this gem has been here a long time!
The ice cream is old fashioned and simple.
It is also very good!
This is a great little after dinner place with a lot of history!
If you get the opportunity you should go!
And eat it very slow and enjoy the history!

Absolutely amazing! We were in town for 5 days and visited twice. The first time I had a vanilla cone which was so good we had to go back. When we went back, we grabbed a quart each of chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. I was thrilled to learn they offer insulated bags for slightly longer trips because we were staying about 30 minutes away. When we got to our home away from home, the quarts were all still solid. We enjoyed those over the next 2 days...so creamy and delicious!
It should be noted they are cash only which I know I've seen in other reviews and questions but that can't be shared enough! I would hate for somebody to get there and not have cash...what a disappointment that would be!
It’s a quaint walk up stop in one of the oldest places in America. Cash only, slightly pricey, and not much of a selection, but it’s still one of those places that people have been going to for decades. It’s more of a “tradition” than anything else. Everyone loves a milkshake on a hot summer night though.
Amazing as always. Such fond memories of this iconic ice-cream shop. I have literally been coming here for over 50 years and it hasn't changed one bit! Love it!!
The best ice cream/frozen custard on this planet. Im from Fredericksburg but a few years ago started my life in South Carolina where I’ve met many friends and my wonderful girlfriend, the best part about showing her my home town was Carl’s. She LOVED it, so shes a keeper!
The true Fredericksburg Classic, if you pass through then you must go here. Cash only, pretty small menu, but all of it is great. Love the cones, shakes, and slushes. I've been going here for 25+ years and it's as good as it's always been. Highly recommend.
This place "CARL'S" is the BEST place to get Custard treats... They are privately owned, not your multi corporate conglomerate... They make their own custard daily, and only have 3 flavors, Chocolate, Vanilla & Strawberry... They do have toppings that you can put on if you choose... They are a CASH only Custard shop...
