The value at this location is atrocious. The two attached pictures are a la carte tacos. Just sweet pork. This is roughly $9 of food since each taco is $4.39 pre tax. Each taco has meat about equivalent to 0.15 oz sized tube of lip balm. I included a AAA battery and the tube of lip balm for scale in the pictures.
I do not blame the frontend employees since I doubt they care how much of each ingredient is used. They aren't buying it. I'm positive store management has told them to utterly cheap out on at least the meat portions. For the price paid for these two empty tacos I could get a large combo meal that *includes a drink* from the McDonald's just across the parking lot. Why would I ever choose to eat here when this is what I get for my money??? It takes a lot for me to care enough to post a review on the internet but when most people are just trying to make ends meet like they are right now, or even if you're someone who hates being ripped off, I am sure you would like to know what to expect from this Cafe Rio. Greedy, chintzy behavior. A shame, because the food is good ... you just hardly get any.
Believe it or not that is supposed to be a burrito in the picture. If I was an amputee, I could still make it better than that. They must have had the B team working the burrito line today.
When you order guacamole and chips the guacamole comes with the salsa Fresca in it which is way too spicy for me. So I order “2oz sides” of guacamole. On DoorDash these are 2.39 each. Three containers should be 6 ounces which is plenty to eat some chips with. However, I have never received what I’ve paid for. It’s only a couple of dollars so I was just not letting it bother me.. until I bought a food scale and realized that I’m not even getting half of what I pay for. This is ALWAYS how it is through DoorDash, and I’ve been ordering from here since Covid. That adds up, I don’t even want to think about how much money I’ve been taken for. I really like the food, but I don’t think I’m going to eat here anymore.
So many problems with this location. Do not order carry out here. One time I had a long piece of plastic in my food. I complained and they said management would contact me and no one ever did. Tonight, they gave me the wrong sauce (mild instead of hot) and did not give me any rice or beans in my order. The put sour cream in my wife’s salad (which we did not order). I have held off complaining because this is the closest location, but when you give so many chances and they constantly mess things up, you wonder if it is worth your time and money any more. The picture is from the plastic in my food.
The carne asada wasn’t completely cut up. It was still as a steak. I yacked on it and almost choked and died. There were three pieces like that. The beans were still crunchy. The rice wasn’t fully cooked and now I’m sick. I called in to their customer service line and the customer service lady was extremely unprofessional and rude trying to prove her point and so forth. My family has decided never to eat here ever again! There are much better Mexican restaurants around here, besides this Utah watered down Mexican food from Cafe Rio where people intentionally try to hurt you. I think I will report this to the Health Department. It is unsafe.
Ordered pick up sweet pork salad. The order was correct and on time for pick up BUT they put maybe 2 strands of sweet pork in the salad. I couldn’t taste any sweet pork. It was pretty much lettuce and tortilla. They are skimping.
Our salad was quite good and fresh. The restaurant and our table were clean. However, service quality and friendliness could be improved.
Ordered a burrito enchilada style - got it home and it was a mess…bean juice everywhere. They didn’t actually fold the burrito and everything was falling out. The beans were undercooked and there was more bean juice than enchilada sauce. The tortilla was saturated and the taste of bean juice overpowered everything else. They forgot the rice and I paid the extra for enchilada style and they didn’t add any cheese to the top. Super disappointed…
