I think the negative reviews are unfair; i honestly really like this place. The food is always tasty even if it's expensive. The portions are nice and big! I really like the strawberry sandwich.
It's really nice to have a fun spot like this in the neighborhood. It does suck that you still can't dine in though, wish they would change that.
Amazing food and service. Sandwiches are worth the price compared to most places in SF.
Definitely recommend the Chicken Katsu but unfortunately I cannot provide the picture as I devoured it along with the box
Overpriced food and lack of seating and restrooms makes this restaurant a pass.
The prices on the menu caught my eye. The sandwiches ranged from $12 to $25. Truffle fries were $16 when there's a place about five blocks away selling them for less than $10. There are similar restaurants on Clement that have seating, similar sandwiches, and lower prices. I decided to order the Gyoza (6pc) for $9. After a 12-minute wait, I finally received my food in a paper box. They were Sohla El-Waylly's recipe for Bon Appetit, pork and scallion dumplings with a crispy skirt, and were crammed into the box and tasted like the frozen ones you can buy a big bag of for $5 in a supermarket.
Overall, I don't think this is a good place to spend your money when there are so many better and less expensive restaurants nearby offering similar food. Only one person seemed to be working, which meant if anybody else entered the restaurant, they would've had to wait a while to place an order. Also, no ingredient substitutions to accommodate allergies are allowed for the sandwiches, which is absurd, since they're supposedly made to order.
Very good chicken sandwich, bread is a bit on the sweet side but goes well with the coleslaw. Not cheap; over $22 including tip for one sandwich. Service is very slow.
Stopped by for lunch around 12PM with no line. Got 3 sandwiches, the egg salad, tonkatsu, and the strawberry choux sandwich. We got takeout since there isn't space to eat inside.
The egg salad was great! Wasn't super mayo heavy and tasted light. The bread is super thick and soft.
The tonkatsu had two pork chops with sauce and mayo and some cabbage. Definitely the most rich and left us feeling full.
The strawberry choux was amazing! Not too sweet and really nicely sized strawberries.
Regarding price, these are just SF prices but I will say that the sandwiches were larger than expected so I would say they are quite filling for the price. They were packed really well! Would be great for a picnic.
Came across this on a bike ride and loved the catchy red exterior! The branding with the pig is super cute. The sandos are THICC though it's more bread than filling. No indoor or outdoor seating. Everything is to-go. I got the Tonkatsu which was pretty solid. Crispy and the katsu and kewpie mayo mix was good. They use very soft Japanese milk bread. Would try the unagi next time though it's pretty expensive. Sandos usually are quite cheap in Asia so this was a surprise but I guess it's SF ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Idea is simple, but I can't say I've had this style of sandwich anywhere else. Had the chashu sandwich and they really stuff the sandwich up with meat. It also paired really well with the two thick slices and soft milk bread. Overall, the sandwich is pretty good, but I don't think I could justify paying around $18 just for some meat between two slices of bread again.
This is a nice cozy spot. The pricesbfor the meal are steep. I had the tonkatsu sandwich, it was not bad. The fried batter was nice and crispy but the meat was average quality. The bread was soft and chewy. Also had the strawberry sandwich. The cream was more of a custard. I didn't think the strawberry sandwich was worth trying.
