Great old classic light house. Rangers are very knowledgeable of the local area and information.
Must buy tickets in advance. Wish would have known that. There is only certain times allowed with tickets to climb to the top.
However still a great visit and great views from the viewing deck next to the lighthouse.

Very nice place. Book online if u want to go up the lighthouse... its more than 200 stairs. The visitor center has some good collection of local wildlife info..
There is a beautiful area and boarwalk to walk around the lighthouse and out over the marshland. The lighthouse is beautiful and there are rangers there to teach you its history before you make the climb. An easy and delightful quick side trip on your vacation.
Grounds and boardwalk are dog friendly!!
Must see sight on OBX between Nags Head and Oregon Inlet. Park for free and walk the boardwalk to a beautiful view of the lighthouse and surrounding marshes. Enjoy seeing and hearing wildlife, particularly water fowl. There are nice restrooms with flush toilets & running water. Plenty of free parking. There is a ranger station, book store and gift shop within the historic keeper’s residence building. The lighthouse is generally open for climbing from Memorial Day to Labor Day, but the sign we saw today indicated that it will open in late April. This is a very well preserved historic site, surrounded by natural beauty. Don’t miss out!
This property is pet friendly. Pets may not enter the buildings/lighthouse. There is a short boardwalk hike through a marsh, which is pretty. I've been to Bodie Island before, but this time, I noticed a nature trail. It's a nice walk, too. The path leads to a body of water where visitors were fishing. We'll definitely be back next time we're in the Outer Banks!
Loved it. Tickets purchased at the door for available time slots. Park Rangers are at the entrance of lighthouse and at the top. Very knowledgeable employees. Very long climb to the top. Don't recommend for elderly or very young kids as you can only have 1 person at a time in the stair wells. Whoever you take has to be able to climb alone 1 stair case at a time.
Tickets before. Bugs galore. 42 inches or more. Happy climbing!
Be prepared to be eaten alive by mosquitoes ????. Cover up. We were only there for 25 mins an got eaten alive.
You must buy your tickets online an there’s time slots. So buy before you show up. BUY before you show up to make sure you can climb the light house. It’s $10 for adults. It’s not free for seniors or vets. Rangers were all amazing! We did not explore anything past the light house cause of the bugs.
It’s a cool climb. Kids must be over 42 inches an able to climb alone an speak. Our 4.5 year old loved it. He did the climb up an down unassisted because that’s the only way to do it.
Again. Tickets before. Bugs galore. 42 inches or more. Happy climbing!
Absolutely stunning view, and wiiiiiindy. If you want to go to the top you’ll need to get tickets and better if you get it in advance as they go out fast and only 8 people are allowed at a time. Great time, check it out.
