We found this golf course for our second round in the US. We'd sent a few emails for info prior to playing and always got quick helpful responses from Roger, the owner. We went out at lunchtime as we wanted it a bit quieter on the course. The club was easy to find and we were welcomed/checked in Roger on arrival.
We hired rental clubs which were brand new Callaways and taken out of the wrapper on arrival! I was living a golfers dream!! These were loaded onto our golf cart for us. I'm guessing this doesn't happen every time but you will get a good quality rental set at this club.
They have a good range to practice before your round with new range technology coming.
The views on this course are amazing, you can tell care has been taken in it's maintenance, fairway lies are always good, the challenge of this course comes from bunkers (120+) - some very difficult to get out of if you find yourself there and well placed pins. The 18th is a challenging hole to finish your round with a shot over water but is great fun as well. Other local golfers also made us feel so welcome and were very friendly.
The clubhouse is very nice with a bar, patio and small pro shop. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and being remember when we returned was a really thoughtful touch. It's added bonus is that you can order food and drink before your round to collect after hole 9 which was very welcomed.
All in all when we come back to Orlando we will not hesitate in booking another round here.
Received an email saying I had a Free round of golf for my birthday and I only have to bring three friends. I called the pro shop and was told to do everything on line and in the message area leave a note saying that it's your birthday and it would be corrected when I arrive to the clubhouse to check in at my tee time after doing so I checked in I was told that they cannot refund the difference because I had paid already. It cost around $40 each but let me tell you I wouldn't have paid $19.99 the greens were that bad, they looked as if they had psoriasis and made it impossible to put. A total disappointment for my birthday. Don't waste your money on this golf course there's plenty of other places with better prices and far better condition
Staff was less than welcoming treated on the verge of contempt. We play dozens of courses in Florida and found the greens here to be the worst maintained in our travels. A very negative experience.
This is a very good course and one with many hidden gems - quality restaurant, full range, soon to be established top tracer golf. The course itself is one of the more challenging in the Orlando area links style, elevated greens. I personally like that but if you want all flat lies and easy greens this is not your course
My friends and I play this course twice a week and have been for three years. I’m compelled to provide this detail because the dry season, lack of rain has played havoc. Yes there are rough areas but fairways are good. You can see the Bermuda peeking thru and ready to burst out. Honestly this is the best long term play in Lake County
Someone said they paid $60. Well no one pays $60. My friends always come in at $44 to $53 depending on time age etc. don’t use an engine that charges $60. Go to the website
We played Black Bear on Friday Feb16/24, and were shocked at the condition of the course. First the positivies…the course itself is an excellent layout with lots of fun golf holes especially on the back nine. Very challenging undulating greens which if they had been in good shape would have been fun. However, the entire course was in terrible condition, the fairways and greens were full of weeds, we played winter rules to find/get some grass under the ball.
Staff were pleasant and helpful, but unfortunately it’s one and done for Black Bear.
Played here 4/9. Although we love the layout, unfortunately the conditions are not what they should be. Greens and sand traps are in need of repair. Have played this course many times and this is the worst it has ever been. Looking forward to seeing what they can do now that the growing season has begun….hopefully they can make the necessary changes.
Good Luck!
P.B. Dye did a great job on the course design. Really liked the layout and undulations of the course. Tee blocks and fairways were in nice shape. Greens weren't as nice but coming around. Will definitely play there again
Come on Black Bear, what is going on? Played last week and the course is in horrible condition. What happened? Played there a bunch last year and the course was in above average condition. Really enjoyed playing there. Let's get it together. Such a beautiful course but you are failing to keep it up. Please get this course into better shape. I won't be back until you do.
