Was pretty interested to try a chicago-style italian beef sandwich, and since I wasn't actually going into the city this time,
i decided to just get one from the airport
starting with the beef, what I liked was this sandwich had a ton of it - there were a ton of layers of thinly sliced roast beef
spread throughout the roll - so that slices would be falling out as you were trying to eat it. However, I wasn't a huge fan of the taste -
the beef didn't really have much flavor - and due to how thin it was sliced - it felt a bit like eating wet, rubbery paper. maybe
some seasonings might have helped
I did think that the bun was really good - most importantly, it was incredibly soft. obviously, this is in large part due to dunking it in liquid
before serving - and yet this didn't really get it that soggy that it was inedible - on the contrary, you just bit straight through the bun like it was nothing
and let the flavors of the liquid out, which was pretty nice. I don't think I've ever had a sandwich bun this soft in my life
I asked for spicy peppers with this sandwich, and this turned out to be my favorite part. First of all, these were quite plentiful throughout the sandwich, and second, they were actually spicy, which I did not expect. As someone who really likes spice, this truly gives the sandwich that extra flavor that's missing from the rest of it. I really enjoyed these peppers
The price of this was a bit expensive given the sandwich wasn't really that large
Overall, the meat was lacking, but the rest of the sandwich makes up for it somewhat. 7.5/10
Hidden gem in the ohare terminal C18 food court! Fast, hot, good food! Employees are nice and made my sandwich-which is no longer on the menu! Also has a nice beer selection!
Billy Goat Tavern in the Food Court at ORD. Is a bustling spot at ORD. I had the Rib Eye all the way. A fulfilling meal. A well cut steak, no chewy fat.
What a great crew of kind and caring humans! They deserve all the praise and raise for making travel fun! Pair that up with fresh food, just perfect!
Chicken sandwich was dry, fries were hot but tasted raw, burger I was told was good. Ham and egg was dry This is typical airport food ! Bland dry and tasteless. I should have known better. Thankfully we are excited about our trip to not worry about it. Personally I am looking forward to the food on the flight. Has to be better than this.
Burger was delicious, albeit greasy with bacon and grilled onions. Pretty typical no-frills burger experience. The fries on the other hand were limp and lacked any seasoning. To top it off the Billy Goat IPA was underwhelming and lacked any distinct flavor. I would go back for a burger, but none of the side dishes.
I think I would have had a better burger from McDonald’s in all honesty. The two Pattie’s are so thin I really thought I only got one until I looked closer. The entire burger is also incredibly dry. I don’t even know if ketchup could save it. It comes with nothing on it except a slice of cheese. Their “large” soda is 20oz which is usually considered “regular” sized in America. My BF got the chicken sandwich and it is also incredibly dry.
The prices are decent when compared to most airport places but the food is barely edible.
There was a queue at 5:30am. Steak and eggs is $12 at time of writing and comes with hash browns so is pricey. They asked how I liked my eggs too. It comes out fast. Steak is very thin, and so is well done yet texture is not too chewy or dried out as I would have thought. Everything tasted very well seasoned.
