This is a really cool blast from the past gem in downtown Aitkin, Mn. It's like you stepped back to the 50's! And that's a good thing. Elvis and Del Shannon playing on a jukebox in the corner really set the mood. Their burgers are absolutely amazing and made the way you like. Their split pea and ham soup is to die for! They also have frosty shakes and malts made perfectly to top it all off! When you're in the north country, you have to try Big Tom's!
Don't order biscuits and gravy if you expect sausage in the gravy. Traditional breakfast with links was great! Best coffee for a diner...
Pancakes the size of a plate! Food was excellent! The service was wonderful! And the coffee was silky smooth on the palate!
So good! We will definitely make this our go to place when we come back to Aitkin!
Mushroom and Swiss burger was tasty with fresh hamburger but the bun was small and soft. Fries were good but I wouldn't say it was my favorite place for lunch.
The food and the price were phenomenal The waitress was good The atmosphere was kind of an older type grill that I grew up with but the food and quantity was spectacular I wish I took a picture cuz I would post it I definitely going to stop there again
We tried to pay and the lady said our card didn’t work there was money on the card and she had started something else on the computer and made us wait 5 minutes with her standing right there and than she proceeded to tell us to wait because she was taking other people’s order that had came in after we had tried to pay. She than walked away taking two other tables orders and getting there drinks while we waited ready to pay in cash and card but she proceeded to ignore us and not help us pay. Than she came back a an asked us if we figured it out and said “oh I could’ve payed it” what kind of server does that and makes people with a baby wait 12 flipping minutes to pay.
Came in for breakfast and was greeted right away with a friendly smile(thank you Addie) our server was really friendly and made sure my coffee was always filled!
I had the chicken fried steak with breakfast potatoes and eggs. I also had their waffle; move over roadside big tom isnt playing with this one! It may not be as big as our favorite local diner dive but I'm sure we can all agree through some type of experience size does not matter and that's certainly the case here! The waffle was hot and crispy and sweet! I had to order one more for my partner, who had the biscuits and gravy, which he also stated was the best he had since we've moved into town.
The atmosphere is what you expect from a 50s diner, great decor, roomy booths for bigger men like myself, I even played some songs on the jukebox!
Overall we really enjoyed our breakfast! And we will definitely be back!
The first time we went, it was busy. We sat for 15 minutes. Nobody talked to us, said hello, or even acknowledged that we existed. My step-mother likes their pancakes, so we went again. The food was good. The staff was friendly. The coffee wasn't hot. The place is "ok". I would go again, but it would not be my first choice.
