The food was good, flavourful and hot.It's just a little salty on a couple of things. But still good.
Our waitress was a little slow on service with refills and condiments. But she was very young, so she was still in the learning phase. She was very polite.
The atmosphere was great. We watched one of the NCAA games while we were there. Big Hopps came out and asked how everything was.
This was a good touch to things.
I've eaten here twice both times were take out. The 1st time I order the smothered pork chops and I wasn't impressed. The flavor was good but the pork chops weren't tender at all. But I decided to try my luck and order again. This time I order 2 dinners one was fried chicken with greens and mac and cheese. And the 2nd dinner was fried catfish w/sweet potato casserole and pinto beans. The catfish was perfect, hot and fresh, seasoned well, and nice and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The fried chicken and pinto beans were also very good. The collard greens and mac and cheese left a lot to be desired very disappointing. They both lacked flavor and the collards are huge they seem to be served as whole leafs and full of stems. They don't have to be chopped into pieces but cutting them some would been nice. The corn bread and sweet potato casserole was just ok. Be aware I think the sweet potato casserole has pecans or some sort of nuts in it. The portions for the to to go sides are small but the prices aren't bad so you get what you pay for. I'd go again for some more of the catfish
THIRD TIME HERE.. EVERYTIME I GO THEY ALWAYS SAY THEY DNT HAVE MY NAME FOR MY ORDER BUT OTHER THAN THAT ITS ALL GUD...
Found this awesome place on Goodall's YouTube review, and had to try it out. Green beans are amazing, Catfish and Spaghetti dinner was to die for, Mac n Cheese is amazing as well. So I'm just going to have to say that everything they make is Amazing???????? we will definitely be going back
I’ve eaten at a lot of places but this has to be one of my favorite. The greens, the catfish, and the fried mushrooms are beautifully cooked down to the cornbread! highly recommend a stop in Shively for your favorite home-cooked meal.. big hopp’s doesn’t disappoint.
Rolled by looking for some authentic, southern cooking, and goodness gracious, we were not disappointed! The food was delectable, the service was friendly, and Big Hopp himself came out to check on us and make sure everything was good, before the religious experience I had with the EXCEPTIONAL banana pudding. Highly recommend you check this place out.
When I say the owner can cook,my my my,he can throw down. Myfavorite place for soul food. I enjoy the spaghetti, catfish, fried chicken and on Sundays he sells his baked chicken dinner with dressing. Prices are reasonable. You will not be disappointed. Before moving to Louisville KY, I would drive from Indianapolis just for the spaghetti and fried chicken.. OMG!!
We were very disappointed in the quality of Food ; it was beyond unsatisfactory. We spent over $67.00 & gave a generous tip; however our food was very salty so much so we had to throw out.
In the future please eliminate the use of so much salt.
