I went to multiple "Diesel Performance Mechanics" in the past two years with my 2007 Ford F-350 Super Duty. I knew my 6.0 Power stroke was going to need "Bulletproofed" when I bought it. First mechanic located in Beaver, Pa ($4200) botched it after three months in his garage. Oil pump housing was cracked due to over tightening before I got it home. I then took it to a mechanic in Harmony, Pa that fixed what the first mechanic failed to do after 1 month in his garage (3700). He forgot to install the shocks that I supplied and a few weeks later oil leak. Third mechanic in Homestead, Pa repaired egr delete hose connection ($320) one week. Still to find leaks. Ugh!
Tom and his guys are the only ones that will be doing any of my diesel work. I was considering selling the truck but gave this place a chance before I decide to spend 80k on a new truck. They did everything I asked. Told them to treat it as their own. If it needs it, do it. Two weeks later, complete satisfaction. No leaks, more HP, nice new 4" exhaust, replaced all screw-ups from previous "Diesel Performance Mechanics". It is worth the drive or tow to get it to him. I'm located by Pittsburgh International Airport and Big Dog Diesel is my go to when it comes to my diesel. Thanks Tom!
Tom sold me a 6.0 that ran for a week and I had nothing but issues with it for a year. He took it multiple times saying he’d fix it. Then never answer my calls, I’d have to show up for anything to happen. And then when I did get my truck back it ran for 2 more days before it started leaking again. Don’t trust this guy
DO NOT USE! He does not stand behind his work, he talked the talk and sounded good. 2006 F350 6.0 engine rebuild. He drove my truck and put 200 miles on it and apparently he did not smell the fumes coming into the cab. Took three months for him to fix my EGR cooler gasket (was cracked into three pieces) Three hour drive one way for me. Then i noticed that my engine was leaking oil, tried to contact him several times and he never returned my calls. I used 3-1/2 quarts of oil traveling to the Smoky Mountains 8 hours one way. BEWARE!!!
STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. An Employee/Owner rolled back the odometer milage. I bought a vehicle from an Employee/Owner of Big Dog Diesel a few years ago that ran great on the test drive but had several issues before I made it home. After a week, it was leaking several fluids and was clear that he had lubricated certain stuff so it did make noise or grind right before I showed up. When I took it to a different mechanic, he said the vehicle was not worth repairing and questioned the millage readings because the vehicle only showed 70k. Turns out that numerous millage reports from work performed at other dealers showed the millage to be over 200k. When I confronted him about it, he threatened me and told me that the sale was final. I would never consider purchasing or having a vehicle repair by this place again.
DO NOT USE!!!! TOTAL RIP OFF!!!! Bought a truck knowing it needed to have engine fixed and sent it to Tom who informed me that It was the wrong engine and it was shot after having my truck for a week. After discussing my options I decided to have a "rebuilt engine" put in. He said it would take another week and I needed a new fuel pump. We discussed pricing and after asking around I felt the price was fair for a rebuilt engine. Week went by and I hadn't heard from him so I started calling. For 5 days I called and he wouldn't answer so I went to his shop (he's had my truck for 17 days at this point) to check on the progress. Then engine still wasn't in the truck. Made up a bunch of bs and it would be another week. Week went by with him still not answering the phone. I went to the shop again and the cab was on and supposedly was running fine just needed inspected but his guy who had the inspection license wasn't in. 3 days later I went to pick up with a fresh inspection sticker, got in and drove it 5 feet and it quit running and wouldn't start again. I refused to pay him because it wouldn't run and he flipped out on me, but I said you don't pay full price for a half done job. He had it another week and said it was the wiring harness and he fixed it, and that he would bring it out to me. I got the truck to my house and after 2 days of having it home it didn't sound right and was idling wrong. I called him and he said he would pick it up. He got it, had it for a week and forgot to call. I had to call him. He said it was a computer on the engine and gave me a bill for $680 including a $300 tow fee. I refused to pay because why would you put broken parts back on the truck. You pay over $8k you expect everything under the hood should in great working order. He said screw it and leave. I got it home and after driving it 800 miles it started over heating and leaking oil. I took it to the dealership and they said he MESSED the truck all up. They don't know how they passed the inspection. Brakes were worn to metal, steering wheel was crooked from putting cab back on, didn't hook ebrake back up, is leaking oil, messed up wiring for fan and fried clutch, Used a TON of used parts on truck that were from the wrong year and didn't hook turbo up right. Cost me an extra $1400 to fix just a few of the things he messed up. I know this is long but DO NOT USE spend the extra money and go to a real shop. He talks a big game and sounds the part but what professional shop doesn't have a lift.
On my older Ford F250, I broke an axle pin in the middle of a snow storm, stuck in rural part of I-70 East; these guys came & got my truck when AAA was unable, found parts & managed to get my truck back on the road. Will definitely use Tom & the guys again.
This place "seemed" legit. Untill I was promised a motor I saw running in a truck and received one that clearly had not ran in awhile!!! and was sitting, rust on the fly wheel turbo was bent looked like another motor had been sitting on top of it, very lazy work done to the truck! self tapping bolts were put in my valve covers, injector 2 was not even bolted into my motor causing my truck to hydrolock, motor has clearly been beat on! VERY UNHAPPY!!
This guy doesn't stand behind their work.
Was told running take out with APR studs
Received motor incomplete couldn't use turbo, finns broken, major oil leak between rockerbox and head. After doing the work that he wouldn't stand behind, found rust pitted cylinder walls have pictures of that also. This guy is a RIP OFF WATCH OUT!!!!
