Big Al's Drive-In: Where Good Food Meets Great Service
So, I swung by Big Al's Drive-In around 1 pm for a bite to eat, and let me tell you, it was a solid experience from start to finish.
I ordered up their Deluxe Cheeseburger with a side of fries, because why not go all out, right? Surprisingly, despite the lunch rush, I got my order within about 10 minutes flat. That's efficiency for you!
While I waited, I noticed someone cleaning up the outdoor seating area. It was a nice touch, you know? Seeing them keep things tidy made me appreciate the place even more. It's those little things that really make a difference.
The cashier was super sweet too. They had this genuine warmth that made me feel right at home. It's always nice to be greeted with a smile, especially when you're hungry and just want to dive into your meal.
Speaking of which, let's talk about that Deluxe Cheeseburger. Oh man, it was delicious! Juicy beef, gooey cheese, fresh lettuce, all sandwiched between a soft, toasted bun. It hit the spot, let me tell you. And those fries? Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. Perfection.
Food was good. The peanut butter milkshake and Oreo shake is good. We also tried the mocha chip shake. Personally we did not like the mocha chip. Fast service.
I would love to give a higher review because most of the food is great but the French fries are not my fave. It's always super busy and takes a while, that's my only other complaint. It's so loved, it takes ages lol. There's nothing like the food here. Real home diner style
I was feeling a little nostalgic and remembered how I used to go to Big Al's quite a bit when I first came to town and for some years afterward.
I ordered a burger basket and a chocolate shake which used to be an actual red plastic basket with a burger and fries in it. There was at least some effort involved in the presentation of the food.
That seems to have changed because When my order came out, it was just one of those little red and white cardboard trays with some fries in it and a burger just wrapped in paper, burger, burger wrapping and the shake on a red plastic tray. Quite uninspiring. The burger tasted fine, like I remembered. The fries... Generic. The shake was decent.
All in all, I didn't get the impression that anybody there particularly cared about the food or how it looked.
I think my bill came to 13 to $16.
At that price, it was a non-value. Probably won't be going back.
Been going there since I was in 4th grade. I'm 44 now. The corn dogs never disappoint, the dipped cones are still generous and amazing. Peanut Butter shakes are the deal!
My Brother and I have both moved to different states but we're recently back to visit for our older brothers wedding, so before leaving town we had to pop in for a treat.
As kids our Dad owned a Dental office just down the street and around the corner, so we frequented Big Al's. Especially on those hot summer days! Hasn't changed, and still the best!
Excellent drive-in food. Everything is more expensive now than I would like. But I would rather spend money here, than $7 for corporate fast food fries.
I like the fries, hamburger, chicken strip basket, zucchini chips, chocolate dipped half and half cone.
I have yet to try the other items but would like to soon.
I love Big Al's. If you are a Chico local you most likely frequent Big Al's. My favorite items are there Fish and Chips and also any milkshake flavor combo. They also have excellent chocolate dipped cones, soft serve cones, or sundaes.
Ordered the chicken tender basket and recieved a large amount of chicken tenders. Was quite surprised at the amount for the cost. Was quite tasty and returned a few days later for the same order and it was just as good and abundant. The milkshakes are quite tasty as well.
