Stopped by here for lunch. Restaurant was empty so was served quickly! The food is delicious! The sushi is full of flavour. The dumplings were my favourite, the sauce just had the right amount of spice.
Got the cake for desert was well which melted in my mouth.
Very high quality, fresh vegan sushi and Japanese inspired dishes that have tons of flavor, imagination. You’re getting that creative sushi that can be missed if you’re vegan or eat plant-based. The “beef” dumplings were to die for, spicy with ginger. The sushi of course was fantastic.
The variety of options on the menu and the presentation was compelling. The only challenge for someone like me who has difficulty digesting spicy food was that they had to remove an spicy ingredient from each dish which took away the flavor. I also suggest that the restaurant improve their ventilation system.
Dropped by Beyond Sushi in NYC for a lunchtime adventure, ready to dive into their plant-based menu. Here’s the scoop:
The "Mighty Mushroom" roll left me wanting more—more filling, less rice. The hefty amount of rice kind of muscled out the flavors of the mushrooms and ginger, tilting towards the dry side.
On a brighter note, the Shiitake Dumplings didn’t disappoint. They packed enough punch to stand out, proving that good things do come in small packages.
Presentation-wise, Beyond Sushi nails it. It's easy to see why it’s dubbed an Instagram haven. Each dish is a visual feast, making you pause for a snap before you eat. But, while the aesthetics had me at hello, I was hoping the flavors would sweep me off my feet, especially considering the price tag.
Space inside is a bit of a squeeze, even by New York City standards. My tip? Sidestep the lunch rush or any peak time if you're after a more relaxed vibe to enjoy your meal.
All in, it wasn’t half bad. The experience had its highs and lows, but I’m open to giving Beyond Sushi another whirl down the road.
It wasn't bad and the taste was fine, but we still aren't fans of sushi. The dumplings, however, were incredible. We would have been happy with just several orders of dumplings without the sushi, but it was still a good meal.
Great options for vegans who love sushi! We loved it. The waiter was so kind and helpful. Totally recommended!!
The chicken yakitori was seriously one of the best things I've ever tasted. The Philadelphia roll was also very good, as was the smoked oyster mushroom salad. Overall very impressed with the taste and presentation, especially considering that everything was vegan.
We ordered coconut curry soup - this was great and had the typical Thai flavor to it. If you guys cannot handle the soup on its own I would recommend getting a bowl of white rice which goes well with it. Then we ordered a Mighty Mushroom roll which was best among the Sushi menu. We also went with Glazed meatballs which wasn't great - the soy meatballs was okayish but overall the dish was poor. Definitely recommend this if someone wants to try a vegan restaurant and crave some sushi.
