If you are looking for good food, good beer, and good times, head to Bernie’s.
Located on the river, it’s ‘no frills, ‘dive bar’ kind of vibe wraps both arms around you and welcomes you with a bear hug.
The Low Country Boil and the Crab Cakes were wonderful. The LCB is something I managed to eat all myself, but it is something you can consider a shareable.
The beer menu isn’t extensive, but you don’t need one. They’ve got the staples, both on draft and in the can.
If you want to start your night off well - then be sure to visit Bernie’s.
Delicious as always. Had the salmon, and it was super tasty. Low country boil is a must try. However, on my second visit eating, it was much less food than I had the time before. Also, it wasn't as seseasoned. Their local beer and magarita are soooo good.
Bernie's Oyster House on River Street in Savannah is a must-visit for seafood lovers. The restaurant is located in a historic building and has a charming and laid-back atmosphere. The oysters are the star of the menu, and they are fresh, delicious, and shucked to order. The restaurant offers a variety of oyster dishes, including fried oysters, oyster po'boys, and oysters Rockefeller. The chili dogs are another standout menu item, with juicy hot dogs topped with homemade chili and cheese. The prices are reasonable for the quality of food and service, making it a great value for your money. The staff is friendly and attentive, providing excellent service throughout your meal. Overall, Bernie's Oyster House on River Street is a great choice for anyone looking for fresh seafood and delicious chili dogs in a fun and casual atmosphere.
5 of us stopped in and enjoyed this dark little place. First time we stopped in had the Shrimp Tacos were 5 ???? but watch the Tomatoes they put on...its a lot. Phily Steak Sandwich was another 5 ???? but the side potato salad was a bit to much Mayo. Turkey Club was a winner as was the Burger and fries both 5 ????. Second a day later saw us try the Seafood Chowder which was ok being thick and creamy but tasted like it came out of a can and little seafood but lots of potatoes...4 ???? Chilli was way to many beans 3 ????. Oysters were a hit even at $18 a dz so a strong 5 ????.Over all we enjoyed both visits and Mike our server the second time there was outstanding.
I wished they had a sign where it says seat yourselves, and if they do, where is it lol?? You're just awkwardly waiting there. We then decided to sit down and wait and see if we could ask for a server. A waitress must've been watching bc she came and passed out their menus. They got a nice selection. I ordered the philly steak sub with no onions but they also took off the green peppers for some reason. My boyfriend ordered the salmon po boy. It was over 30 bucks which is a bit high imo for lunch. Chips were not homemade chips like I thought it would be. They gave out a bag of store brought chips. The pub itself is nice but too expensive for mediocre. People would come in and just stand there, and we told a couple of them, apparently all you got to do is find a table and sit down.
If you are trying to find Bernie's???? Look toward the river and Bernie's will be the 2nd to last shop on your right side (On the river front). We asked 4 people and noone could answer where to find...mostly imported workers...anyhow...the search will be worth the effort!!! The atmosphere is one where you roll up your sleeves and dive into some of the finest seafood that you will ever have the joy of eating. It's a "Do drop in" atmosphere that caters to those who just want GREAT food. We sat at the bar and Peggi was the greatest bartender that we encountered on our trip-she made us feel like friends.
We had Oysters that literally melted to the palate..an explosion of freshness. While there...some locals came in an ordered a bucket of oyster to shuck themselves....check out the picture of one of the largest oysters on record...the lucky stiff....We also had a course of fresh steam shrimp...a platter that was heaping with shrimp! The place is not cheap but you get what you pay for....a MUST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Husband had the shrimp basket - was a plentiful amount of food & was very good. I had the seafood chowder - good & hot, but was most definitely from a can. For the ambiance, over a dozen shrimp in the basket & great service from Donny Bernie’s gets 5 stars from us !!
Took my dad here when we came to Savannah. It's no frills which is what I always look for when traveling. Loved the oysters and my salmon blt. Give it a try!
