These guys are the real deal. They’re def BUSY but I can’t hold that against them. But they’re friendly, responsive, and do good business. It’s so hard to find a Bay Area mechanic/tire shop that isn’t trying to shake you down for every last penny. We dropped in for a tire rotation and they couldn’t get us in that day (because they were busy), but Ricky acknowledged us instantly and was super friendly and helpful. We scheduled for the following week and I was in and out of there in under an hour. Ricky didn’t pressure us to buy new tires but did observe that we need a new set soon. Most shops around here would pull a fast one and say “we can’t rotate your tires without you buying a whole new set” because they just want to make a quick buck. Ricky was honest and straightforward… And because of this, we’ll be coming back at the end of summer for a set of four. It’s really nice to see businesses still exist to HELP people, and not just make a quick buck. Ricky could have pressured me into buying a full set right here on the spot and he didn’t. And for that, they’ve got my business for the rest of my life because I trust and like these guys. Thanks Ricky and the BAC team!!
I've taken my Honda Element here several times. I've always been very satisfied with the service – friendly, professional, fair prices. They take the time to listen and then explain what's going on with the car. Then they work with you to prioritize the most important repairs. What more can you ask for in a garage?
Unfortunately I didn’t have an acceptable experience at this auto repair shop. I was told that a diagnostic review would take 2 to 3 hours and it ended up taking 5 hours, while I was fortunate to find a wonderful coffee shop across the street for waiting. I was then told when they found the problem for which I took the car to them, that they didn’t have the needed part and wouldn’t be able to repair it until the next day. So my son left work to come and pick me up to drive me home. When we arrived at the auto shop to make arrangements for the next day, we were told that they actually did have the needed part after all and were repairing the car now. So my son and I drove back to the lovely coffee shop to await the repair being finished. So it actually turned out that my son didn’t need to leave work after all to take me home since the car did get repaired.
In addition, the shop tried to sell me on buying more repair work amounting to at least $1,000, that I didn’t need. I checked with my former excellent auto repair shop in Sacramento that I used for years before moving to the Bay Area, and explained what these folks were saying and he affirmed that these new repairs were not needed.
I do not trust this establishment now and would not recommend them to anyone.
Sol was very helpful, honest, polite, tentative and knowledgeable. The crew does excellent. I felt safe and I knew I was going to get quality work done on my car at a fair price. I recommend the Berkeley auto care to all those travelers that may break down and are in need of repair. They have excellent hours and open on holidays.
Had my car towed here after all the power steering fluid leaked out. They located the leak on a part that was recently replaced by another shop and gave me good information to relay to the other shop so I could get it towed there and repaired under warranty. The diagnostic price was quite reasonable. And a big shoutout to Ricky for being so friendly, attentive, and helpful! I would not hesitate to bring my car here for future work.

In summer of 2022, before a driving trip to LA, I took my 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan in for an oil job, they suggested I also change the break pads, which I agreed to. On the trip down, the breaks seized up and it was as if I was driving with the parking break on. The car had never before had any problems like this. At some point later, the breaks un-seized and I was able to make the trip back to Berkeley. I took it back to Berkeley Auto Care and they said the breaks had melted down but weren't really able to understand why. Now, randomly during long trips, the breaks will seize up like before, causing the gas mileage to plummet and creating an awful smell. I'm very frustrated with the fact that they suggested doing the break job originally and now I am stuck with break problems on my car. Seems like amateurs over there.
It seems silly to recommend this place. If it becomes popular then I’ll never be able to get in. But it is the best place to get your car fixed in Berkeley. So, you’re welcome.
