Best WLM Reviews

More than a little confused by this place. The food and wine was above average, the staff was great, the room was clean, and there is a certain ambiance with the estate. But the breakfast was, really, a joke. And the doors squeaked so loudly… Mind-blowing that some oil can’t be found for that. I was wondering why amenities weren’t listed on the website, and now I know: there aren’t very many. Even trying to find an outlet to recharge the phone was a challenge. Lots of potential for the place, but it’s lacking.
We went for a wine tasting. The tasting room was nice, plenty of things to look at and shop for if you’re looking for small goods. The wine was nice, we liked the Chardonnay. The staff was nice and friendly and very knowledgeable.
I agree with another review… I would not stay here for free!!! Upon arrival we were greeted with a sign that basically said that an employee had to tend to something else, have a seat until they come back. We waited 15-20 minutes for someone to arrive … another guest was passing by and asked Kristen a question, at that point I wasn’t even sure she worked there. After she walked behind the desk it became obvious. Kristen never greeted us I had to approach her (by this time the other guest had left). She seemed irritated and I introduced myself and told her we had a reservation for that evening. While we were checking in the “winery” lights went out … I asked about that and she said it’s a “holiday” the winery is closing early as are our restaurants. That took me by surprise because no where on their website was this information shared, it happened to be Mother’s Day and my Daughter’s 21st Birthday. The plan was to share this special day in this beautiful castle while enjoying their winery and restaurant that according to their website was open later than when we witnessed the lights going out. Kristen was happy to recommend another place in town to eat though. She then hands me a piece of paper which was for free wine tasting at their winery which was closed. I also asked about a late check out because we would be ending our magical castle stay with spa treatments the next morning at their spa. Kristen rudely said “you’ll have to ask the front desk in the morning that IS our most popular suite you are staying in”, she then pushes our keys across the counter and is dismissing us without even explaining how to get to our room. I politely asked how we get to our room. At this point I’m really disappointed that the winery and restaurants are closed and feeling really unwelcome. Kristen never explained anything about the property or amenities. My daughter and I walk to our room and upon entering it was very underwhelming , the furniture was outdated, worn and dirty. There were little bugs flying around, the balcony was tiny and dirty, the windows were dirty, there were stains on the carpet and the room was in great need of paint, updating, deep cleaned and much TLC . I sat there in disgust this room was costing us over $400 and we felt so secluded in a dreary dismal room with nothing to do. I called the Belhurst number, of course Kristen answered and I asked to speak to a manager, I was told he was not available but I could speak to him tomorrow, I told her that is not acceptable I needed to talk to him, and I explained all of my complaints above. Kristen said she would try to get in touch with him. About 15 minutes or so passed and nothing, so we collected our things and were ready to walk to the desk and the room phone rang , it was Kristen letting me know she talked to the manager and he said he’d talk to me in the morning, I told her this was unacceptable and that we were collecting our things on our way to the desk to check out. We arrived at the desk I told her I wanted a full refund. It is so disappointing that the manager never cared enough to address any of my complaints, as if he could care less. My take on this property is that it is too expensive for whoever owns it to keep up with it, it’s very sad because this castle could be such a gorgeous property inside every room and out! There’s something to be said about hospitality and upkeep and unfortunately the Belhurst Castle didn’t even come close and Sadly I would never recommend this place to anyone! I did receive an email from the manager the following day late in the afternoon, I had sent him an email outlying all of my disgusts after leaving the castle. ||I did receive a full refund. I also spoke to the Manager of the Spa who was very nice and she was in fact very disappointed that the Manager of the Belhurst hadn’t reached out to me and wanted me to know that they only rented space from the Belhurst and were completely separate.
Nice rooms in the old 'castle' building. Free wine from a spigot right outside our room, but maybe not the best wine you'll have! A wine tasting included in our room deal, in the shop on the ground floor, which was fine.
Good spot with nice views across the lake, and a firepit to sit around
Breakfast selection was a bit minimal for a hotel of this calibre.
Went for my husband’s birthday. We did dinner at Edgar’s and an overnight at the castle. What a disappointment and waste of money. Dinner was overpriced, bland, cold when served and just not very good. The hotel rooms are clean on the surface but need a deep clean and maintenance. No water pressure in bathrooms, dimly lit, wine on spigot tasted like vinegar, fireplace wouldn’t stay lit, co2 detector chirped at 12:30 am, coffeemaker didn’t work, and bed mattress was terrible. Worst part if none of that sounds bad I kindly tried to let them know at checkout. If they didn’t know I didn’t want someone else to experience these things. They were disinterested didn’t take one note. I’m guessing because they already did know and hear it all the time. Just stop by for a glass of wine or a day trip eat at Stone cutters. That’s a much better experience. Save your money.
Was expecting a lot more with what is charged for a room here and the descriptions given about the place and the pictures, hence now my assesvtrust issues. The tv in the room was very small and hardly worked . Musty smell throughout the whole building. The bed was so uncomfortable I had to take Motrin and my back still hurts. Was literally awake all night!
Our first night we decided to grab some drinks at the bar, wasn’t greeted for a while (there was only 2 other people at the bar) and when finally greeted, bartender had an attitude as if we were bothering her. She served my husband then disappeared as I waited and waited for MY drink! Finally get my drink and it was ok , ordered another for possible redemption, same drink , tasted totally different. Very inconsistent pours. Ordered some food which was unbelievably bad, a 4 year old could’ve made something more appetizing, extreme disappointment.
There was a wedding and the DJ blasted his music , the venue was 2 floors down from our room, yet the walls were shaking and the extreme bass was so outrageous, my anger level at that point was intense as you can imagine, spending your very hard earned money , getting away for the weekend to try to unwind and have to put up with that boom boom boom for 3 hours! Called the front desk multiple times and nothing was remedied.
Went to Edgar’s for dinner, I should have been very worried when the couple across from us sent both of their meals back and ordered something different, and didn’t even eat that. My filet was tasteless, I think it was microwaved, no sear , no seasoning, just bad. The meal was supposed to come with asparagus per the menu, it did not, it came with mushy carrots with some red peppers. The mashed potatoes were mediocre. My husband ordered the scallops that were extremely over seasoned, and under cooked. The longhorn has better food, and that is not saying much. Let’s talk about the waiter wearing his gym clothes , wear a uniform and act accordingly, Geesh!! If you’re going to advertise a higher end restaurant, please encourage your staff to play the part. No gym clothes looking all dirty and disheveled..
overall , the experience here was horrible, stay elsewhere and visit the wineries.
Absolutely beautiful. Went in January when we just about had the castle to us. Included was wine tasting and a light continental breakfast. Ate in the tavern since the dining room was closed. The room was spacious and spotless. Walked around the grounds. Place is well maintained. The staff was very cordial and welcoming. Plan to visit again.
I wouldn't stay here for free. I booked the most expensive room in the castle (The Tower Suite) only to find that it doesn't have air conditioning (literally the only amenity listed) and slept in an 80 degree room with many bugs that were dead upon arrival. Additionally, my husband killed four different species of insects numerous times throughout our visit (the ants in the bathroom were especially impossible to keep up with). Our private balcony was covered in mosquitos and bird droppings, it was quite clear that it hadn't been cleaned prior to our visit - nor during, despite the front desk claiming they clean it daily. Because of this, we didn't have the option of opening our balcony door in order to allow some cool air into our room (a suggestion of Elena, an incredibly rude and unhelpful staff member from the front desk, to resolve the air conditioning issue). Instead, when we raised these concerns, Elena rolled her eyes and told us that our room had one of just three fans available in the entire castle - as if we should be grateful. She also told us to set the thermostat at 50 degrees and that would cool the room. After that failed to work, we were told the next day that the thermostat is for heating only, the castle is too old for central air and window units aren't being installed until May 31st - despite it being hotter in our room than outside. Their restaurant closes at 8pm, their bar-restaurant closes at 9pm, and the speakeasy available to castle guests wasn't open at all. Don't waste your money - if you're looking for a romantic getaway experience in the Finger Lakes, stay at Geneva on the Lake instead.
