I gave a one star as I was very disappointed with my service. I was on a semi spur of the moment trip over that way and had stayed in the Chelsea area about 10 years ago.
We got there and asked for a room. They had 3 rooms left but wanted to charge $299 plus tax and service fees for a room for one night due to the high volume of people staying at the hotel as U of M University's graduation was that weekend. And was told they can charge what ever they want when they have higher then normal volume of guests and that if wanted to stay you pay the price. (Um excuse me, we DO NOT TALK TO GUESTS that way) So I stated I was going to go to the other hotel. Again told you will pay higher there for the same thing and they can charge you more.
Well I am sorry, but I do not believe when you are a hotel and can just change your prices due to the amount of people that are coming in for a graduation. When online it shows around $188. Granted, I did not have a reservation, but that should not matter. I was on a whim and thought it would be fun to have a spontaneous trip with my husband and stay where we had 10 years ago.
So would I recommend them, Maybe on a day, weekend they do not have big events or make sure that if you know your going to stay there book several months in advance. But also did see some rather not great reviews from others that stated there were issues with staff, cleanliness of the rooms and just all around not a good hotel to stay at.
Wyndham needs to remove their affiliation/name from this location! I normally do not write bad reviews but our experiences at this location requires it. The Chelsea location is not up to par with the Wyndham brand. Our door to the room was falling off the hinge, telephone was not working, the room darkening curtains were torn. The dresser drawers would not slide and open properly. There were dings and markings on the walls. We did not receive daily clean towels even though we were told to put our used towels in the hall in the morning and they'd put fresh in a plastic bag in their place. I heard other guests complaining to the manager about similar issues in their rooms. If you are okay with sub-standard accommodations for a hefty price, then book. However for what we paid for 3 nights, I'm beyond disappointed and won't be back!!!
Other than the location being ideal for visiting my in-laws, I do not recommend this hotel. When we arrived to our room after checking in, we found hair in the drain, toys under one of the beds and a used medicine cup in the corner of the room. We also expected daily housekeeping since we weren't told otherwise but that doesn't happen. We had to leave dirty towels and trash outside our room to be picked up. My fault was assuming accessible meant handicap accessible. It does not. We do not have high expectations for hotels but do expect cleanliness and acceptance of those with disabilities. We will not be staying here again.
This location does not properly represent the Wyndham brand. I always found Wyndham properties being a cut above. This location changes my opinion. The overall cleanliness of the room was marginal at best. All and all it was not a great experience. We will not be going back again! It pains me to write this. We were very disappointed with our stay for the price we paid!
Positive: Not really sure due to the fact that I only slept there 1 night and I got in late and had to leave early.? Negative: The breakfast was less than I would call a breakfast bar. There was food or something gross on the bathroom sink and the coffee pod still in the coffee maker so I know they dont clean very well! Negative: ""
Positive: When checking in the employee was very friendly and courteous. Negative: the bathroom was dirty, mold around inside of tub, the covers on the beds were short. was going to have the breakfast but the only thing that would have been warm were small frozen waffles everything else was cereal or bread type items. Checked in and was not asked for my ID or reservation number, just asked for ONLY my last name and given room keys. The lobby, hallways, and rooms are all dingy and outdated. The curtains in my room were ripped, the window shade was stained, and there were thick cobwebs in the corner of the room. There was a chunk of the wall missing in the bathroom. The worst of all was there were ANTS EVERYWHERE. They were in the bed, the bathroom, the jacuzzi, and alllllll over the floor. The tv was tiny and seemed to be from the early 2000s. Newer, nicer furniture can be found at goodwill. Kids can be heard running and screaming up and down the hall way outside the door and on the floor above. Thankfully I only needed to stay for a few hours. Never would have expected such a ghetto place in Chelsea. The price was way too much for how nasty this place was. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.
Staff was okay in person. Several complaints about staff telling people to call back at a later time to reserve a room, repeatedly. Several rooms had bed bugs, mold, faulty faucets, drops of blood on a room phone, hand prints all over head boards from the obvious activities. Do not recommend
