Best WLM Reviews
The guacamole is pretty good. The guacamole is freshly prepared directly at the table. The customer's wishes are taken into account if some ingredients are not desired.
We ordered starters to start. Our drinks were served fast but one drink was wrong wich the server realized but it self and changed the drink.
After the drinks our main dishes were served. All the main dishes tasted good.
We asked for the starters, which were then served with the main courses. The service manager even apologized for this, which is really great. However, the charm of a starter was lost as a result. The ceviche, one of the starters, was not to our taste. Instead of the usual sour taste of lime, it was very spicy. Because it was delivered late, we did not charge for the ceviche. Our waiter was always very attentive. Now and again he lacked insight and reliability in the form of completely clearing away the dishes. In general, it was still a nice visit to the restaurant, the location is beautiful, cozy and inviting.
Barrio Mexican restaurant offers a visually stunning ambiance with attentive staff, but falls short in taste consistency across dishes.Upon entering Barrio, one is greeted by a beautifully decorated environment and welcoming staff. However, the dining experience takes a hit when it comes to the food. The Taco Tower, though featuring a variety of fillings, disappoints with its lack of overall flavor cohesion. While the steak and shrimp were enjoyable, the chicken failed to impress, resulting in a lackluster taco experience overall. The Guacamole, unfortunately, adds to the culinary disappointment. Despite the pleasant surprise of the serving size, the taste leans heavily towards avocado, overshadowing other potential flavor profiles. This discrepancy in taste could have been avoided with clearer communication from the server regarding the serving situation.Despite these shortcomings, the staff at Barrio remain a highlight, offering attentive service throughout the meal. Additionally, the drinks provided a pleasant contrast to the underwhelming food, adding to the overall enjoyment of the dining experience. In summary, while Barrio Mexican restaurant excels in ambiance and service, it falls short in delivering consistently flavorful dishes. Despite the mixed experience, the restaurant shows promise with potential for improvement in taste cohesion and communication regarding menu offerings.
Let me just start with saying that this is hands down the best all you can drink mimosa restaurant. The staff is so nice and helpful with explaining the menu. The food is insane, like literally insane. I would definitely come back here to celebrate any birthday. They even brought out sparklers and special birthday shots for our special girl. Love it. Also our server , Katarina was the best!!! I will 100% come back just for her!!!
This is a very pricey place for food that is not excellent but it's good enough and it's a great place for fun and drinks. I gave them five stars because the tres Lecha cake dessert is really amazing. The cake is very spongy, and had a nice big fat, mint leaf, the blueberries were good, the condensed milk along with the caramel on the side was really good and the cake was very moist, and there was a lot of milk and milk throughout the cake, which is a perfect combination. They have actual candles The margarita tasted really good and it has spicy flakes with salt around the glass. The $16 taco salad was a good vegetarian option for me, which also had cheese, which is fine with me, but it was way too spicy for someone who does not like anything spicy, and I did not see anything described in the menu that it was spicy. So I was suffering And my sinuses were cleared. I also was looking forward to a lot of salad and fresh tomato pieces and cilantro and onions, and I didn't like the vinegar based onions in there because it was too vinegary. I would've preferred sauce on the side I could put as much as I want instead of everything being in that pre-mixed taco salad sauce, if I come back for the next time to order it again. The $21 Carnitas fried rice was really good and had fresh rice and fried egg with onions and pork. But I felt the serving size for the high price was very small because I kind of expected twice the amount of rice because rice doesn't cost that much. If you're hungry, you might want to get something else. It gets pretty crowded right after work so it's pretty loud in here, but at least the music is not blurring like some places might be. Overall, the ambience is great, the drinks are good. The food is OK. They offer tres leche cake, which is my favorite for $13. It's one of the best desserts offered at a restaurant and Barrio did it so well. Oh, and they also have outdoor seating. The decor and all the special rooms are very pretty and cozy to enjoy w friends and family. And they have weekly rotating special deals like five dollar tacos on Tuesdays and we can brunch drinks that are bottomless.
We were a party of 3 and went pretty late in the afternoon for lunch (after 2 pm), had to wait for 5+ minutes for an outdoor table. Nice vibes with music inside but we want to enjoy the weather.
We started with Pinot Grigio for 2, Jalapeno cucumber (spicy..mmm) for me. This is how our order was and No regrets ordering these - Mini Chicken Empanada, Tuna Ceviche Taco, Chicken Al Pastor Tacos, Oaxacan Cheese Quesadilla ( Add Skirt Steak and it is extra $). That was good enough for all of us and we didnt order any entree. The waiter Alex was very friendly and smiling all the time. While tipping, the default is 20% (fyi only). We stayed nearby, so walked to this place. Not sure about the parking/valet parking if they had any.
This was our first visit here and we went for brunch. To begin with, all the food I had tasted incredible. Also, the presentation of the food was great. Lastly, the customer service was some of the best I've had! She was very attentive and friendly. Overall, I will be visiting again!

Delicious guacamole prepared table side. About the best I’ve ever had! Margaritas were delicious as well. Food was very good - we got steak fajitas and the beef was very high quality and delicious and full of fresh delicious grilled vegetables. Prices were typical for downtown Chicago. Not a bargain, but this is Chicago and this is fine Mexican food - not Taco Bell. We walked to the restaurant from our hotel, so I can’t speak for parking. We got a very spacious rounded booth along the wall, not a table in the middle of the dining area. It was relatively quiet and very comfortable. Lovely atmosphere. They call it Modern Mexican. We did make a reservation so we were immediately seated when we walked in. I would recommend that.
Truly the only complaint was the slow service. We waited for everything - more chips, to order, drinks and then more drinks, the check. We were in no particular hurry, so this wasn’t the end of the world for us, but it was annoying given how many staff were busily everywhere. And, if you ARE in a hurry, it might be more than annoying.
Nevertheless, I would highly recommend.
I came for restaurant week & it didn't disappoint! Great atmosphere, flavorful food, good service but a smidge slow. They appeared understaffed which is the standard now. Sole complaint is that the chicken tortilla soup was cold. I sent it back and the replacement was also cool. Maybe it is served cool vs hot, like gazpacho but overall good flavor.
