Best WLM Reviews
We visited Baldy's BBQ for the first time this weekend. Everything was generally good, but not life-changing. That said, we'll return next time we're in the mood for barbeque.
The standout item was the Cheesy Corn Bake -- excellent! The mac and cheese was very good too. I enjoyed the pulled chicken sandwich, and my dining companion generally liked his food, although the brisket he received was very fatty and a little bit tough. The sweet BBQ sauce at the table was excellent. The cornbread seemed more like a spice cake, but was tasty.
Prices were fair, and they do offer a cash discount, so plan accordingly if you want to take advantage of that. Our server was very friendly and took good care of us.
Overall I'd put Baldy's at about 3.75 stars out of 5. Certainly good enough to return to at some point, but I don't feel a need to rush back tomorrow, either.
Some of the best smoked meats in the south metro. We had rib tips, brisket, and smoked pork tacos. The main course meats were all very good. The sides were of varying quality (the green beans were soggy and probably out of a can) but the fries were great and the corn bread was outstanding. They’ve got three sauces available and they’re all fine. The “hot” one was indistinguishable from their “regular” one — we thought the bottles might have been mislabeled.
Service was slow and disorganized (especially considering the place was at maybe 1/3 capacity) but our server was apologetic and friendly. The dining room is low-key comfortable. They’ve got some great priced deals available for takeout only as well.
We’ll be back next time we’ve got a hankering for some decent BBQ.
We stopped in after a quick search for BBQ and this joint was en route. Not that busy but it should be. Our server was so awesome and would've made the great no matter how the food was. I can't stress how nice she was. The wings were fantastic! Perfectly cooked, tender and juicy on the outside, a little but of a bite exterior and not overly sauced. The ribs and brisket were both very good, nice smoke flavor. The whole experience was to notch.
Ok BBQ. The food here is average. Our server Lisa was phenomenal. Loved her.
If you’ve only had Minnesota BBQ, then this place is a 4.3. If you’ve had Texas BBQ, it’s a 3.0.
Ribs: I’m not a fan of baby back ribs.
Plus, none of the food, ribs included, had a very strong smoke flavor to it.
Brisket: It was ok. A little on the dry side.
BBQ beans: Ok. Nothing special.
Mac & Cheese: Ok. Nothing special.
Bottom line: if you’re hungry and looking for a decent meal. Stop in. If you’re thinking of traveling here from a distance to try this place, you should consider other options.
We’re local and had them at a graduation party and tried the restaurant. It was better than good and right on par for Minnesota BBQ. The older gentleman running the till was very helpful on making decisions on what to try and atmosphere was ok. I think we should of gone earlier in the evening as our meats were dry. I would go back and try again for sure. The BBQ Egg Roll was very good with the Carolina sauce. My wife liked the tacos and stated it was a huge portion. I think they got a good thing going there. I want to add, they did a great job on the Mac and cheese. Many bbq places serve dry Mac and this was not. Loved it. I’ll change to a 5 star if we can get some wet meat. Dry brought it down. Next time….
What a waste of money, none of there sides are made from scratch. I know better than to go to a BBQ joint when you don't even smell smoke. None of there meats are smoked, the pulled pork was tough, the ribs were very greasy. When there cooked right majority of the fat is cook off and your left with the flavor and as far as a rub on the meat there was non. No flavor. They called it cornbread but idk what was but was not cornbread. For 40 bucks I expected a pretty good meal. But there is a stack of wood behind the building use it. The owner and cook should be ashamed. What a disappointment.
I ordered the Right Combination with brisket, mac and cheese and cheese curds. The brisket was tough, the ribs were surprisingly tender but not seasoned very well. The Mac and cheese just tasted like Velveeta, and the corn bread isn't even really corn bread, it's more of a dull spice cake. The cheese curds, ranch and sweet tea were the only highlights (and they didn't add even a half a cup of ice for the sweet tea). I will not be returning here. Maybe the people around here don't know what bbq is because it's the north but this is not the place to get it.
Came here while OTR with my dad. Being from Louisiana, we love some good, flavorful food. This establishment did not disappoint! The best pulled pork sandwich I've had in a long time. The wait time was great as well as the service. So good we had to get seconds for the road. (p.s. I don't normally drop reviews, this is definitely an exceptional place)
