The entertainment was excellent. I was impressed that our server could take orders and write nothing down and all the orders came out correct. He was sharp and friendly. However, they do not have enough help. He was spread out so thin and he was handling so many tables that we barely saw him. They were out of almost everything we wanted on the menu so we were disappointed before we began. No chicken, no Ribs, no mashed potatoes no milk to make the alcoholic drinks we wanted to order. Just a lot of basics that a restaurant should not run out of in the beginning of a night. Long wait to order, long wait for food and when the food came out the corn bread biscuits and baked potatoes were badly undercooked and still raw in sections. We were also told they would put a $20 cover charge on our bill however we did not expect to have to pay an added 20% tip on top of the whole amount that was added to our bill automatically including on the cover charge. I don't mind tipping for good service but to make us pay an additional 20% tip on the added 60 dollar cover was wrong. We also tipped the performers in cash as well so this was an expensive evening. If we go back, we will not order food next time because the kitchen had a lot of challenges and the food was ok at best.
Had a great time hanging out at Baker's. This place has been here forever, and although the decor really shows and they're in dire need of a remodel, I'm not so sure it's the thing to do.
Went to see a friend's band play, "Lorenzo Rhode's Quintet, and they hit all the right notes. Especially the smooth bass player.
They're serving up good old- fashioned soul food here. The waiters are cool, efficient and very good. I had the Ocean Perch Meal with Collard Greens and Black-eyed Peas. Be careful of that red bottle sitting on the table. It's not ketchup. It's hot sauce, and it sure does come in handy. Spices it up. Even though the food is darn good already.
Drinks are strong. It's a good thing. We all like that.
So whether you're there for the entertainment, the food or just to check out those keys on the iconic piano bar while having a drink, you'll be glad you paid that $10 cover after stepping in through those glass doors to hang out at Baker's Keyboard Lounge.
I would help people to know that the restaurant always charges for parking, a cover charge and a gratuity. I would have tipped my server more. But she didn't tell me that the restaurant automatically charged me for 20%! It's her loss.
The food is definitely tasty. The Jacob Hart Trio is very talented and Jacob will be even better as he grows up. He's only 15! But he's one of the best jazz pianists that I've seen in years.
Great food, excellent entertainment venue, but unfortunately I was given the wrong bill and overcharged over $200. The establishment has agreed to reimburse me, but I inconveniently have to return to their business in order for them to do so. This issue definitely put a damper on an otherwise great event, treating a friend out to celebrate their birthday. Word to the wise, even if you hand the waitress your bill, double check the numbers before signing off.
Update…several weeks after this incident I still haven’t gotten a resolution, had to file a dispute with my credit card company
We when after a graduation, you pay 10 for parking and if you have a party more then 5 it. A 10 dollar gratuity charge on top of a gratuity percent of the bill this is my last time going here. Save your money. Food doesn’t taste well. Good luck.
It was my first time here in about 5 years. As always, the live performances are outstanding. They always have top-notch entertainment, but that's it. The food was not seasoned at all. I was with a party of 20 people scattered throughout the seating area. We got there at different times, so we were scattered at different tables. Everyone had the same comments about the food. There was no seasoning on anything. Also, the drinks were way overpriced in comparison to other restaurants further down in the fashion district. That among sneaking a cover charge on the bills of people who ordered food and not on people he only purchased drinks is wild. Waitress miraculously went MIA when people had questions for the bill.
It’s my birthday so chose to travel to Detroit to visit this spot been here many times. Was told we couldn’t have a booth they were reserved yet couples behind us were told to pick whatever seats they wanted. They were out of pork chops at 6:30pm, I wanted to sub smothered fried chicken was told there would be an $5 upcharge. Dressing was DRY I took two bites they said I still had to pay for it, that was $7. Gratuity built in bill so good/bad service does not matter. Small pop cost $6. Will be a while before I come back again!
My Husband and I went for a Birthday Celebration for a close friend of ours… The Food was cold and very slow coming out from the kitchen… It was 15 of us and the service was trouble. The waitress was horrible and at the in she charge more money on our bill then said it was our bill when it was not . Look at the bill and said o it was a mistake.. Then she got loss we had to talk to the manager and she took off the extra money off our bill … I have work in hospitality for Over 33 year and this is the worst experience I have ever had…. I will not go back or recommend anyone else to go there.
