awesome experience for some authentic cajun cuisine. a group of us showed up at 6pm on a Friday - they had live music and the place was busy. felt like we were eating in somebody's living room, lots of locals who clearly frequent the place. food was great, i had the chicken & sausage gumbo which was delicious. they have won the award for best local gumbo something like 7 years in a row. server was funny and helpful.
We went to Abear's Cafe and enjoyed some live music on a Friday. Food and service were both good. Enjoyed the shrimp poboy, and my husband liked their fried oysters. Update: came back and tried the roast beef. It was pretty good too!
We went on a Friday night to taste real Cajun cooking. We enjoyed everything: the food, the music, the hospitality. It has been a very nice experience and we recommend it to anyone who pass by Houma
I got fried okra , crab claws, roast beef on bun, fries, chicken & sausage gunbo and dessert with peanut butter and chocolate pie.
A Cajun food heaven for Houma. The food is ranked #1 for what it serves, in many categories. Home style cooking, fried seafood, sandwiches, poboy, hamburger steak, potato salad, gumbo, stew, desert, all made in the kitchen from scratch. Sure it is not a 5 star type restaurant, but for it's type/style, it is 5 star. Soda and beer on real ice! Got to come here and just enjoy, especially when they have a band playing, 5 to 9 on some weekends. A must visit if you have friends visiting Houma.
I Didn't Care For The Food At All,Sorry But It Was Nasty. The Fries Was Cold With No Salt. The Roast Beef Was Hot,But It Had A Funny Taste To It.It Was My 1st Time Trying This Restaurant,Sorry!!! But I'm Not A Fan.Maybe Roast Beef And Fries Was The Wrong Choice.
First, I asked for my drink (beer)to come with my Food… It was brought before and when I said that it would get hot, the server (guy) Sad hey, that wasn’t me and did not try to rectify the situation. I ordered the seafood platter and everything including the sweet potato fries were way overcooked .. Definitely will not be going back For overcooked food and terrible service.
No-frills lunch spot with simple cajun food. May not be for everyone if you prefer adding cajun seasoning to your meals. Maybe the recipes are from before the invention of Tony's? I didn't think to ask for Tony's, but salt and pepper got the job done.
A friendly lady next to the door made sure I didn't wait too long for my order to be taken during an extremely busy lunch. The staff were keeping up with the lunch rush as best as they could. A huge drink kept me from needing refills, and I still got in/out just as quick as any other place in town.
A free piece of cold bread was brought out first, along with potato salad for my gumbo.
I don't see a point in serving cold bread with a pack of butter that isn't able to melt/spread. Maybe the bread was supposed to be warm? It was free, so whatever floats their boat. The rest of my food came out hot and fresh.
My potato salad was basic but exactly what I like in a potato salad. Very good with a dash of salt and pepper!
A lot of flavor was missing from my cup of chicken and sausage gumbo. It grew on me after I added some salt/pepper. I wouldn't order it again or go out of my way to get it.
The red beans, rice, and sausage lunch hit the spot. A simple recipe with no crazy add ons.
I'll likely return one day to try out the roast beef poboy. Wouldn't return for the same food I had today since there are so many other options closer to me, and the hours are limited.
