So so yummy! i've been wanting to try to this place for a while and understand now why they have solid 4.5. Cool vibes, great food, reasonable prices. Can't wait to try their other dishes. I had the meatball plate and hibiscus tea (SO good). Heavy on cumin if that's not your thing but otherwise delicious and very filling.
If you are in New York, you have to go here! Easily some of the better Egyptian food I’ve had (outside of my families kitchen and Egypt). I’ve been quite a few times and the food is consistently tasty and the service is great. You have to try the sauces, they elevate every menu item. The Hawawshi is my favorite, but you can’t go wrong with anything. The fries are incredible as well; seasoned perfectly and crispy and soft at the same time.
Overall rating: 4.4
I was very excited to try Egyptian when I found this place on Google. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I know I was hoping for unique food. I was a bit surprised when I went it was mostly a variation of halaal. I also didn’t realize the place was mostly vegetarian and think its description should be updated.
I think I got the basic halal with beet and another sauce. The sauce was reallly good!! I would go back for the beet sauce. But the food ended up being a side to my beet sauce.
The staff seemed very friendly but it was so bright. Wish they could lower it just a tad. If you’re a vegetarian, I think you’re going to like this place a tad more.
Really neat ambulance. We went at 11am and felt a bit ripped out of morning time due to the ceiling-mounted colorful led lights. I believe this is a reference to the night life culture (not clubbing and drinking, just living in the night) of the Egyptian desert cities. Very interesting ambiance I quite liked it!
The food was great, particularly the Hawawshi. We also got fries, which had a lovely seasoning on them but were a bit too thick cut to achieve any kind of crunch, and the beef liver pita, which was really flavorful and juicy and delicious. But the textures of the Hawawshi stole the show! Oh and the iced tea was delicious but very sweet, almost to the point of Sweet Tea from the South (Georgia & Alabama).
Very fun to have a legit Egyptian street food spot here in Manhattan!
Zaatar French fries!!! My love forever now. Omg. First of all, food quality is amazing. Secondly, Friendly personnel, incredible fragrances, cool vibe, clean restroom.
It’s one of my favorite casual places in lower Manhattan now.
Good job guys.
Thank you.
Good luck.
Second time here, both for lunch, and both delicious!
Had the meatballs over rice with salad and a mint limeade. I asked the server for drink recs and he let me taste all of his faves.
Need to come back for the dukka fries because they look amaaaazing.
They also still have outdoor seating - Happy to have!
The service and the atmosphere of the place are amazing, maybe I had High expectations for the food so I was very disappointed, I was hoping for some authentic Egyptian food but unfortunately the menu items were super westernized that you don't recognize it anymore. got the hawawshi and koshary, the koshary was okay but the hawawshi had nothing to do with hawawshi + their prices are insane but I guess that's just because it's manhattan.
I was excited to try Egyptian food for the first time... We ordered everything that was available on the menu at that time.
Unfortunately they closed before we could order more. Loved the bright orange harissa!
Will definitely come back to try the Koshary.
