We needed to run to Hagerstown for some errands on Tuesday evening and I remembered the special at Fireside. We went in and ordered 2 of the steak with all you can eat shrimp and mini crab cakes. My son was turning 8 two days later and he wanted to try the same, so I let him. I asked the waitress if they had a kids version and she said they didn't. I still said OK and let him get it. Our steaks came pretty quickly and they were very good. The shrimp were fine, but the crabcakes were pretty dry. My daughter wanted shrimp and French fries, so she ordered the fried shrimp appetizer. It took a long time for them to come, but after she brought them to the table I understood why. The shrimp were huge and were very good, best thing we had. Everything in the building is very dated, but we will go back at some point and give it another try.
Tried their new Mexican night today. It was very good...chicken, beef, shrimp, taco shells soft and hard, lime cilantro rice, queso, black beans, refried beans, enchilada. They made us a cheese shrimp quesadilla. All you can eat at a reasonable price 15.99....$2 Margarita
Stopped in late Sunday afternoon for lunch as they were having a Memorial Day buffet and every other time we've attempted to go, they haven't been open. There was still an hour left of the buffet and most of the food was fresh and well stocked. A few items had been sitting and were slightly overdone but that's to be expected. I personally found the food to just be ok, not great but not bad. The salad bar was clean and well stocked, no wilted lettuce or dressing mess, etc. Staff was very friendly from the host to the waitress we had zero issues and enjoyed talking with them. It's an older restaurant and you can tell, but its not falling apart or dirty, just needs some updating. They offer regular buffets and specials as well as regular dining. The price we paid was beyond fair for what was offered. We will be back another day to try them again.
A mixed experience. I had been there before with out-of-town guests and had a very nice meal. Tonight, by myself and rather late, but the service (Keri) was quite good. A most interesting wine list, especially in reds, heavy on South America, with some unexpected blends. Sides were fabulous, especially the roasted Brussel sprouts; the roasted red taters were also very fine, and plenty of both. Then there's the steak. A tasty piece of rib eye which I ordered medium rare, asking for a bit on the rare side of that. It came definitely medium even when Keri had said she submitted it as rare, and was a bit tough for ribeye. I was in a good mood so I pointed it out and let it go when Keri asked about it; she still got a couple bucks shaved off the bill for that, bless her. Atmosphere (see the ratings) somewhere between rustic and diner. If I could give 3 1/2 stars here I would as I'm going to give the steaks another chance as well as the other menu items; sides dishes, wine list and service help me overlook the shortcomings of the steak--this time!
Soup and salad bar was really good. The chicken vegetable soup was really good as well. It seems like it’s hard to find a salad bar anymore. The crab pretzel was awesome! Along with the crab cake sandwich. It wasn’t crowded for a Saturday afternoon. They had some great lunch specials until 2 I believe!
Had a work Christmas party… had to ask the waitress to take our order after sitting for over 30 minutes. It was not busy… appetizer was crab dip which was good then I got a New York strip with crab cake…salad bar had dirty plates something dark in them which staff neglected to notice…. when my steak came out it looked like it had parsley poured on the top way too much. I ordered medium it was well done. I took one bite worst taste ever… I was really disgusted with the service and food I just asked for a to go container and brought it home to feed to my dog. Because it was a get together for work the waitress automatically added the tip to our bills which we paid but she didn’t deserve all that for the bad service we received. All of us are in service so we tip generously! Don’t waste your time going here when there are too many quality places in town with great service. My bill was over $60 for one person and I drank water.
We got married on 4/20/2024 and we booked our reception for Fireside. We had a few bumps along the way. In the end things worked out great. The appetizers were delicious, not too mention the main course which was a buffet. The food was plentiful, tasty and hot. Thanks to Zach Greenlee, on our wedding day he made himself available for any questions, compliments, and complaints he made us feel special.
We found out a few things that we hadn’t been aware of and we were not pleased about. We got apologies for the bumps that lead up to our special day. And they were heartfelt not just words. Zach accommodated all of our needs. And the needs of our guests.
After the reception about 15 of our guests including myself and the groom made our way to the Fireside Restaurant. We were offered a drink on Zach and I as every bride knows I didn’t get time to eat hardly anything. I ask Zach about buying some crab legs and before I knew it a very overflowing plate of crab legs were placed in front of me. ( Which I did share with the table.)
The only suggestion I can give you is if you are planning a Wedding reception, Buissness meetings, Birthday parties or just a group of friends go talk to Zach at Fireside. I would definitely recommend talking to him personally then you know everything will be handled correctly.
I would also like to give a shout out to the staff that set up, waited on and tore down our event they were amazing. I would like to thank Brenda Harp for all the help she gave also. ( just remember to demand to touch base with Zach throughout your planning he should be aware of everything at all times. My biggest mistake)
So Fireside is definitely the place to reserve for your special events you won’t be sorry.
Thanks again for everything Fireside! (Zach)
My husband and I absolutely love this place!!! It has become our go-to for special occasions & date night! We prefer going on a Wednesday around 3pm because it’s usually just us. We have tried several dishes including steak and the salad bar and everything is always top notch! Servers are super friendly, food comes quick and it’s a plus that they have a bar inside as well! We didn’t get to go on Valentine’s Day because we assumed it would be packed but we will be making reservations this coming weekend for my birthday! Our next visit I will post some photos I’m usually not much of a picture taker especially during date night I try to be engaged w/ my hubby not on my phone!
