Best WLM Reviews
We were thrilled to find that The Bus, which closed because of COVID, has reopened for the month of August, 2022, for takeout only and a limited menu (only halibut fish and chips). They have actually retired their original venue and are operating out of a small mobile kitchen with a picnic table on site for dining in. Next season they plan to be open from Memorial Day through Labor Day for both fish and chips and peel and eat shrimp. I had a delicious meal there after visiting fish creek. They still make the best fish and chips in all of Alaska!
We ate here in August of 2016, because of other reviews recommend one should eat here. Those previous reviews were right! The owner, who is also the cook, makes all the dishes fresh & it has been some of the best tasting seafood I've ever eaten. I highly recommend for everyone visiting Hyder to eat at The Bus. We will definitely be back to eat here again.
Great fish and chips, it was crispy, soft, and very fresh. They had malt vinegar out for the fries and ketchup as well. They are a cash only location but take both USD and CAD.
Super friendly pitty as well, he originally wanted to be petted but once I got my food that's all he could stare at.
If you're visiting Stewart, BC and driving through Hyder, I highly recommend you stop by to at least say hi to the pup!
The Bus is no longer. The owner said COVID shut them down, but they opened up right next to the bus and it’s now called The Cabin. The Bus is this there, but not used any longer. They have a few picnic tables scattered around. Quite mountain atmosphere.
Cash only. They will take American or Canadian. In 2023, the 2 piece Halibut Fish and Chips is $25. That’s about an average price for Halibut Fish and Chips in AK. Very good! Thick halibut pieces fried with a light crispy batter. Every order is made fresh.
Love the bus, at there 9 years ago. However, when I was just there a week ago, she isn't using the bus anymore but a shack right next to it. No it ain't fancy, but the best damn halibut fish and chips I've ever had.
We stopped at the bus 22 years ago, the Halibut was excellent and the owners were awesome. July of 2023, stopped there again. Bus was closed but their store was opened. Bought Halibut and cheese from Wisconsin, where we are from. Awesome people, hope they are then, the next time we visit.
We arrived on a busy Friday afternoon. A tour group was just ahead of us, so we had to wait a while. But, it was worth it! They sure know how to properly prepare halibut. Excellent. Don’t forget to bring cash, either USD or CAD.
Absolutely the neatest seafood restaurant I have ever experienced with the best seafood I’ve ever had.
