My friend, partner and I were on our way back to Vancouver and decided to go check out the The Boat after a 3-day trip to Seattle/Portland. The Boat is located on the corner of Rainier Ave S. and S. Jackson St, you can’t miss it because the restaurant is the shape of a boat. So unique!
We got the following items:
????- Cơm Gà Mắm Tỏi (Garlic Chicken with Rice)
???? - Mì Trộn (Garlic Chicken with Dry Egg Noodle)
???? - Bánh Kẹp Lá Dứa (Pandan Waffles)
???? - Bánh Kẹp Chuối (Banana Waffles)
????- Phin-Tini (Vietnamese Coffee with Vodka)
????- Trà Đá Lá Dứa (Pandan Iced Tea)
The Garlic Chicken was cooked to perfection, so crispy and juicy! The Chrysanthemum Salad and Chicken Broth nicely complimented the Chicken! The waffles were also really good, we especially enjoyed the Pandan waffles for dessert. It came with a nice salty coconut whip cream that the restaurant makes in house. Lastly, the Phin-Tini was delicious and Pandan Iced Tea was so refreshing to have! I probably enjoyed the Phin-Tini more than an Expresso Martini. It was just so flavourful and also I just love Vietnamese coffee! Definitely will have to come back again when we’re in Seattle again.
Hear about this place from tiktok and the sister Pho restaurant in the same lot. It was kinda busy and a very small restaurant but cute & good service.
Prepare to get your fingers sticky ! The chicken dishes were so amazing.
You absolutely have to get the waffles with the coconut whip. We also tried the coffee with the coconut whip and it was so fire. I would come back for any of these dishes on their own.
The venue is welcoming, cozy and has both indoor and outdoor seating. We ordered garlic chicken with rice, noodle soup and dry noodles. They were all really good, though I would probably avoid the noodle soup next time as the soup was bland. The chicken was well fried and moist and you definitely must try their chili sauce. The pandan ice tea was underwhelming.
Flavor, flavor, flavor. The garlic chicken is tantalizingly good, and is served with your choice of rice, egg noodle soup, or dry egg noodles. We found the rice to be surprisingly dry, but the egg noodles were flavorful in the broth. Highly recommend getting the pandan waffles to share, the coconut cream topping is decadent.
What a delicious spot. The chicken is so flavorful and juicy. The broth is delicious. I got rice this time but it seems like everyone got noodles. Additionally, get the pandan waffles - it comes with a slightly salty coconut cream to dip in.
The Boat shares the same parking lot as Pho Bac. In fact, m my waiter shared with me that the owners of each are brothers.
The main reason to eat here is for the garlic chicken and rice. The Boat is a fine example of a doing few things very well. The menu is small, with only noodles and a waffle dessert as additional options. And yet the chicken is flavorful and well prepared.
The waffles are accompanied by whipped salted coconut, and is delicious and fun to eat.
The dining room is small and cozy. So be prepared to wait for a table when you arrive, because The Boat seems to be a popular destination. However don't let that stop you - this place is worth the wait.
Just okay. I had high expectations because I heard a lot of good things about this place but it really just wasn't that impressive. Pricey for not a ton of food.mostly bone on my chicken. The waffle and coffee were pretty good but I feel like you can get just as good at dessert places nearby and for cheaper.
I would say this is a place you can skip.
It's really small and crowded. So it's just luck of the draw if you can get a table without waiting very long.
Servers weren't unkind but just didn't ever check in or refill water.
You'd probably be better off going to pho bac next door.
This is a great place to try! I love the food and the service. The inside is a bit small and cozy but definitely still a good atmosphere. The menu was a bit hard to understand but looking at the photos helped along with asking the staff questions. This isn’t a run back to but I could see myself potentially visiting again. The soup and salad are a nice addition. The rice tasted a little under seasoned for my preference. The chicken tasted great although it wasn’t that easy to eat. Minor detail that some people probably wouldn’t even mind. The flavors are all there, this place was a good visit.
