Best WLM Reviews
This is a historic German restaurant in Chicago and specializes both in comfort food and comfort atmosphere. We visited here during Christmas time, and the whole place was decked. The children could play games while the adults enjoyed good food. I ordered an oxtail and tasted their steak, and both were delicious. We had a party of 20 and had our own room booked with our own Christmas tree.
Great BEER, cozy atmosphere, friendly service, convenient location! Loads of house brewed beers to choose from, with German style liter mugs available. I’m a big German beer and food fan, having recently been to Munich, and can say the Helles was on point. The food was good, but not consistently great. Pretzel was warm and soft, but not enough beer cheese for dipping the whole thing. Jager Schnitzel was 3 small cutlets, with good sauce, but was not crispy. Spatzel was good. Would come again for more beer and explore the menu further.
I have not been to a German Place in a very long time. In fact I cannot remember the last time I ate sauerkraut! This was one of THE BEST meals in a very long time! I was on the road for a conference & this food hit home, comfort food! This is the Appetizer portion which was just the right amount for $10. Bratwurst, sauerkraut & potatoes. The place is huge so don’t worry about seating! The staff is knowledgeable & quick to serve you.
Beautiful historic restaurant with delicious authentic German food and friendly staff. I had the Sauerbraten with perfectly cooked veggies and they were accommodating with putting the sauce on the side. Tasty and fluffy/crispy pretzel! Decadent and dreamy flourless chocolate cake. Best dessert I had while visiting the city!
Very friendly service and tasty food. The pretzel was still hot when we got it and indeed enough for 2 or even 3, apple strudel soo fresh, the fish dish delish as well
A business lunch took me to The Berghoff today. It had been ages since I’d been there, not even the outpost at O’Hare had been on my radar in years.
Restaurant wasn’t super busy and our waiter did a good job with our large group. It was fine. The menu has expanded beyond traditional German fare, which was a tad jarring. I stuck with the German route and ordered the currywurst. It was fine. Sausage wasn’t particularly flavorful, which was a bummer, but the curry “ketchup” made up for that. It was just fine.
Shout out to the staff member who bussed our table. Told some great stories about the restaurant.
Overall experience was fine, not “meh” fine, but simply fine.
The schlachteplatte was not the best since the pork chop was a little bit dry. The sauerkraut and the potatoes were okay. The bread basket wasn't anything special nor it was toasted. The sausages and the creamed spinach on the other hand were delicious. The root beer was good but it wasn't very special either. It took a while to get the food out because I was in a large group.
Very good authentic style German food. The pork was great. It had a nice smoked flavor and the sausage was bold. The Wiener schnitzel was good as well with a buttery finish. The interior of the place had a very timely and old world feel to it. The different beers from the attached brewery are worth trying in one of their four beer flights.
