QUALITY, QUALITY, QUALITY. Ten-Ichi has the best sushi in San Francisco. Sushi and sashimi are super fresh and delicious. Have been enjoying this Fillmore & Clay essential since 2000. Family-run (legacy to son Steve) for 40+ years.
Ten-Ichi Restaurant & Sushi Bar left me with mixed impressions. The food, including Tempura Udon and Chicken & Tempura Combination Dinners, was decent, but the extended wait time of an hour for our food to arrive at our table was quite puzzling. With only one chef visible at the sushi bar, it raised questions about the restaurant's staffing situation. The lack of efficiency in the kitchen was evident and contributed to a less than satisfactory dining experience. The server's inattentiveness further dampened the experience. While the flavors were alright, the overall service and wait time make me hesitant to return.
Hadn’t been in quite some time after leaving the neighborhood and moving to Vancouver BC (home of fabulous sushi). We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the sushi and friendly wait staff. The uni quail egg and tobiko was sublime! Don’t miss this hidden gem on upper Fillmore!!
We came on a Sunday night. Once we sat down, we waited 15 minutes for miso soups… then didn’t see our food for another 45 mins (the tables who arrived after us was even served first). The rolls weren’t very good and poorly executed - Most fell apart in our chop sticks.
The service was horrible. We had to serve ourselves water and there was an argument inside the restaurant between employees while we were waiting for food - like yelling arguing…
I know this is a rough review but take it as you will..
I’ll add a side note - the Seafood Udon was pretty good.. the noodles and broth
I had teriyaki steak and fried tofu. On another occasion, I had eel fish on top of rice that one was delicious.
Ten Ichi is a long tenured Japanese restaurant in the Fillmore area that serves up a variety of dishes, from sushi and sashimi to tempura and teriyaki. The restaurant has a modern, minimalist décor and a friendly staff.
A bit on the pricey side, the omakase is around $150 per person, and standard menu dishes can be quite expensive as well even for this area. For the price, some of the dishes were excellent, but others were just okay. It seems like the quality of the food can be inconsistent."
The wait staff were knowledgeable about the menu and made great recommendations. They were also very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed.
Overall, I appreciate the fresh seafood, attentive service, and romantic atmosphere. However, the higher prices & inconsistency in the food itself makes me & my friends think twice before coming back.
Super fresh sushi. Tip: sit at the bar, name your budget, and let the shef feed you. Don't order from the menu.

Great experience seating at the sushi bar, interacting with the owner, a sushi pro, true San Franciscan and passionate individual. Sushis and Chiriachi were made to order, extra fresh, creative and delicious !! Had a great time and warmly recommend this 45 year old family institution in the heart of Pacific Heights
