Best WLM Reviews
This is an awesome little spot, it's so clean and well maintained. Service was great, and the food was even better! Legit Mexican tacos, the salsa served with chips in the beginning is a must have. Overall great experience and will be back for more! The only thing I did notice is they do not have true white queso, only nacho cheese dip, nor do they sell alcohol, but do NOT let these things stop you from having a great meal.
We stopped at the Taqueria el Jalapeño after speaking to a neighbor saying they had a good experience at this restaurant. The restaurant is located just off the main road and there is parking to the side of the building. This is a Mexican restaurant with authentic Mexican food. The seating area is not large, but they have two large TVs and it can accommodate multiple guests. There is also a small outdoor area for eating outside when the weather is nicer.
We called in with a party of eight and were seated immediately when we arrived at the restaurant. We were greeted by our waitress, which brought us chips and salsa which was very good (had just the right amount of heat). There are a lot of traditional Mexican food items on the menu that are reasonably priced. I ordered the chicken enchiladas and a beef lengua (tongue) taco. The enchiladas were crispy and delicious with the verde sauce. I never had a beef lengua before; it was very tasty and I would order it again. Everyone else at the table also enjoyed their meals. One of our friends ordered a slice of tres leches cake to bring home which looked really good.
The owner named Juan, came out to ask us about our meals and the service and genuinely showed that he cared about his business. He shared one of his secret sauces with us and even gave us a take home container to try. They also brought a lot of snacks (mints and Hershey kisses) after we paid the bill, which the kids really enjoyed.
I was very impressed with this restaurant, knowing they had just opened a few months ago. The service was great and I felt extremely valued as a customer. I recommend stopping in to the Taqueria el Jalapeño if you are in the Mt. Airy area and want to try some delicious authentic Mexican food.
redoing my whole review as I have tried it again months later. This time I got 3 caneza tacos and a carne asada Gordita.
They have seemed to have gotten the flavors much better than last time. Before everything seemed very under seasoned making me question if my tastebuds had something wrong. This time was great. Cabeza was almost buttery and the Gordita is absolutely incredible.
I look forward to returning this time around
We previously did a take out and decided to give the restaurant another try by dining in. Service was friendly and warm. Chips and salsa were fresh. Steak fajita and steak torta were slightly dry. Wife liked the fajita though. Prices were higher than we were used to.
New spot in town were the cozy corner used to be, nice remodeling, food and service were excellent . Came back several times and it was good again and there's churro.
Finally a good Mexican place in Mount Airy!
Tried them for the first time today and everything was fantastic. I use to live in TX before MD and am always on the hunt for good authentic Mexican food here. Taqueria El Jalapeño is the bomb.
Birria taco was top notch and so was the squash blossom, corn smut, carnitas, and the chicken quesadilla. The sauces were delicious too.
We will be back for sure!…. Super nice staff too and quick service and a nice little dining room.
Pozole was great! Salsa was watery, although made fresh. Their house sauces didn’t have much heat. Overall, nice to have a legit Mexican place in town.
They are still figuring things out, but the service was great (and from one of the co-owners!) and the squash blossom quesadilla was unexpected and crazy good. My husband got 3 different tacos with meats and wasn't a big fan, but we both agree that the homemade corn tortillas were yum. No alcohol and not sure if they are planning to get a liquor license. Posting menu photos for future diners!
