Best WLM Reviews
Finally checked Tal Bagels off my list. Overall it is a very mediocre bagel spot. I might not go back again.
Their 1st Ave location is spacious with many indoor seatings and a restroom. The service was lacking as I had to remind our server a few times I wanted my bagels to be toasted. We thought it would be a great spot to work or study.
The bagel texture is soft, fluffy and flat. Yet both sesame bagels are not fully seasoned with toasted sesame. BEC bagel tastes standard. Tofu veggie spread is my staple at any bagel shops. This one is quite bland, yet it has a bold tofu flavor.
I've heard of these bagels, and I happened to pass by and decided to give it a try. First impression, the place feels dirty. Maybe because it is old but did not feel clean. Grimmy, you know. There was an obnoxious old guy on the phone speaking loudly and sort of making a scene when ordering. Either a regular or owner like looking old, dude. So many ppl were eating and online, so I figured I was in for something very special. But it is just another bagel shop. I did buy a chocolate babka, and it was ok. Yall not missing much.
If you love salmon, this is the place to go! They’ve got cured gravlax, lox, pastrami lox and baked salmon. I went with lox one day and gravlax the other.
The consistency was perfect as was the level of toasting. Upon request of a amount lite cream cheese, they actually listened.
The real star of the show, however was the chocolate babka bread. I’ve never had anything so delicious.
The only reason I don’t give this place 5 stars is that it’s a bit dirty. Trash was left on tables along with crumbs and the bathroom was pretty nasty. If you can get past that, the food is great.
Very expensive and pricey for just 2 bagels it was $40. I know this is in Manhattan but still it’s just crazy. Bagel was crunchy and good but it was super salty. Salmon was of good quality, however, and I could tell it was fresh. If the bagel wasn’t so pricey and salty then I would have loved it. I went inside because the bakery is beautifully decorated with flowers and it’s a great Instagram spot type of location for pictures. Lots of seating area.
First timer for a bagel and coffee. Bagel was a solid three and a half star NYC bagel so there's that. The coffee was also good. They do have a single restroom for patrons which requires a key from the staff. Large, clean and well lit. Staff was nice. Give them a try if you are in the area.
Tal Bagel is a bagel shop in Stuy Town. the eatery makes a variety of bagels fresh every hour. there’s some seating. however most people grab n go. beyond bagels, Tal serves coffee, a variety of baked treats like Babkas, and there are other savory options like knishes. the shop is super clean and very well maintained.
most recently, ordered an everything bagel with lox spread, red onions, and capers. it was delicious. great bagels don’t need to be toasted and Tal’s serves great quality bagels. Slight crispness with a chewy soft inside. the lox spread has that fatty lox umami, and the red onion + capers adds a couple of more flavors to round out any bagel sandwich.
the staff are super friendly and work hard.
Bagels here were average. Their spread is more of a paste than a cream cheese spread. There wasn’t a line but they still rushed our order and messed it up, charging us for more than we ordered.
For the full NY bagel experience especially if your jet lag finds you up at dawn seeking comfort food. The service is brisk and the selections are typically expansive. Go with the specialities lox and cream cheese. It’ll be the most expensive bagel you’ve bought before, but sit outside and shoot the breeze with a local and you’ve got everything you need for a genuine, fulfilling NY experience.
