BREAKFAST REVIEW
Sun 9th October
The Pavilion Cafe,
Alkincotes Park, Colne.
I've been meaning to visit this place for a while now so as the weather is still reasonable I took my motorbike for a spin out to Colne.
I'd checked my map before heading off as although it's close to the centre of Colne it is tucked away in a park surrounded by residential streets. I found it easily enough and parked almost at the entrance to the park, insight of The Pavillion itself.
My first impression on approaching the cafe was the explosion of colours from the window boxes adorning the Pavilion, I suppose that depends on the time of year though. I guess I got lucky.
There were some tables outside the cafe but I prefer to sit in so I can see whats going on.
It's a dog friendly cafe, which makes sense with it being in a park and there were a couple of little pooches being fussed over by customers. Personally I have no issue with well behaved dogs being in any establishment but if you are adverse to K9-company this one might not be for you.
I found a seat and ordered at the counter. I went for the Large Breakfast. There was a Gut Buster version but the large would definitley suffice. I swapped the egg out for a slice of Black Pudding (which wouldn't have been included on the Large Breakfast) and ordered a pot of tea.
I took my seat and waited. The place has a really friendly vibe, there were lots of cheery "Hellos", " Good Mornings" and "How are yous"
It was obvious there was a regular clientele. There were 4 or 5 staff working together and you could see into the kitchen where breakfasts were being prepared, cakes were being decorated and everyone seemed genuinely busy and happy.
My pot of tea arrived with teacup and saucer and a small jug of milk. I was actually offered a choice of cup or mug - that's a first!
When my breakfast came I did the usual and checked the plate was hot - not to moan if it wasn't heated but if not I'd have to start straight in on the beans before they went cold as I hate cold beans. Anyway it was hot. It burnt my finger. Happy days!
The first thing that struck me was the slice of black pudding. It must have been over an inch thick (that's about 2.54cm for the kids ????). A very impressive slab of ebony goodness.
The sausages were butchers pork sausages supplied by Schofields Butchers in Nelson and the bacon was a nice thickness and held its shape well through cooking, both were delicious and well prepared.
There was grilled tomato, my preference rather than tinned and both halves were on my plate, which was a welcome change.
The mushrooms were dark and rich with flavour and the beans were probably Heinz.
The toast was sliced white, again, my preference with a breakfast and I was given a third extra slice as my waitress told the bread was a bit thin (or something similar ????????).
Sauces were in sachets.
All in all it was a lovely breakfast served in a really friendly environment. It's a pity it took me so long to try it but I will be returning and I heartly reccomend visiting Pavilion Cafe at Alkincoats Park for a great breakfast.
????????
Fantastic food and great service
Lovely for home made traditional food. Plus a lovely mouthwatering array of Cakes ???? ???? ????
I would leave 0 stars but then nobody would see it. Been here before and couldn’t fault the place so we made a return today. 40 minute drive from where we are but we thought it would be worth it. Got there at 2:30pm for it to be shut, although it states online 4pm. Not happy, wasted journey.
Called this afternoon, only one table on the sunny verandah and it was taken, 6 outside tables all wet after overnight frost and not wiped down, bird pxx on the seats. Ordered food and moved to the verandah table after it was vacated. Several cig butt's under the table we didn't notice before sitting. £14 for poor tasting coffee and tea, barely passable cheese and onion toastie (bread hardly toasted) and a very poor turkey, cranberry and stuffing toastie (no baguettes left) again toast hardly toasted, inside not toasted at all, soggy bread and soggy stuffing. Not impressed. Judging by other comments we either called on a bad day or were an acception?
Lovely characterful cafe with tasty home made food and friendly staff
Lovely small cafe perfect for dog walkers and park goers. Good quality food and reasonable prices.
Nice place!! I love their coffee and prices are very reasonable for everything.
Great food here and friendly staff. Loved the biscoff cookie pie.

Quick Facts About Pavilion Cafe at Alkincoats Park

The strengths of Pavilion Cafe at Alkincoats Park can be identified from the comments provided. These strengths include the fantastic food and great service, the variety of homemade traditional food and mouthwatering array of cakes, and the overall friendly and characterful atmosphere of the cafe.
One of the standout strengths mentioned in the comments is the quality of the food. The reviewer mentions that the breakfast they ordered was delicious, with well-prepared sausages and bacon, flavorful grilled tomatoes and mushrooms, and a generous portion of black pudding. They also enjoyed the sliced white toast and the fact that they were given an extra slice due to the thinness of the bread. Additionally, the reviewer mentions that the cafe offers a range of homemade traditional food, which suggests that the menu has diverse options and caters to a variety of tastes.
Another strength highlighted in the comments is the friendly and welcoming environment of the cafe. The reviewer mentions that there was a regular clientele and that the staff were cheery and greeted customers with hellos and good mornings. This suggests that the cafe has a loyal customer base and provides a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for both regulars and newcomers.
The cafe's dog-friendly policy is also mentioned as a strength. The reviewer notes that there were well-behaved dogs in the establishment and that this is understandable given the cafe's location in a park. This suggests that the cafe is accommodating to all visitors, including those with pets, and creates a welcoming atmosphere for dog owners.
In terms of weaknesses, there are a few criticisms mentioned in the comments. One reviewer mentions that they made a 40-minute drive to the cafe, only to find it closed despite the website stating that it remained open until 4pm. This suggests that there may be a lack of accurate and up-to-date information regarding the cafe's opening and closing times, which can be frustrating for potential customers and waste their time and effort.
Another reviewer mentions that they found the seating area outside the cafe to be dirty, with wet tables and bird droppings on the seats. They also mention that there were cigarette butts under their table and that the overall cleanliness of the area was not up to their standards. This indicates a potential weakness in the cafe's cleanliness and maintenance, which can negatively impact the dining experience for customers.
Lastly, one reviewer mentions that they were not impressed with the taste of their coffee and tea, as well as the quality of their toasties. They describe the coffee and tea as poor-tasting and the toasties as barely passable and lacking in flavor. This suggests a potential weakness in the overall quality and consistency of the cafe's food and beverages, which can be a deterrent for customers seeking a satisfying dining experience.
In conclusion, Pavilion Cafe at Alkincoats Park has several strengths, including fantastic food, a variety of homemade traditional options, a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, and a dog-friendly policy. However, there are also some weaknesses that should be addressed, such as inaccurate opening and closing times, potential cleanliness issues, and inconsistencies in the taste and quality of the food and beverages. By addressing these weaknesses, the cafe can further enhance its strengths and provide a more enjoyable experience for its customers.
